O.k.. Im thowing this out there because the local BMW/Mini dealer can't be bothered to help. I am wanting to know the detailed workings of the Auto-Steptronic gearbox in my MCS. A few mechanics I know have mentioned how "sweet" the gear change was and would like to know more.
Sure, I know how to use it, but I am looking for detailed workings. For example I did manage to find somewhere that the box has 5 clutches.. but thats about it. Anyone with more info or could point me to someone / somewhere offering all the tech specs / workings would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.:red:

It took me a while to find, but I knew we'd talked about this before:
While poking around the web trying to find out information about our tranny... if it is indeed the TF-60SN, produced by Aisin AW, then these links may be of value.
Author Tom Birch's website: Welcome to Tom Birch offers two interesting tidbits:
A short powerpoint presentation on the transmission: http://www.tombirch.com/1/ppt/9.ppt
A flash animation on the Lepelletier gearset: http://www.tombirch.com/1/flash/9.swf

There are paddles on the steering wheel, or you can use the gear lever to push/pull through the gears.
Personally, I like just shifting the lever over to Ds and use the automatic box in sport mode.

It isconfusing; as there are at many different operating modes for the transmission, before adding kick-down, and the manual is not necessarily clear:.
"D" selected by stick, sport mode off. "D" shows on tach display. Automatically selects 2nd-6th, focus is economy.
"D" selected by stick, sport mode off, manual up/down shift by paddle. "M" shows on tach display. Temporary steptronic mode. After 8 seconds without high load, reverts to automatic "D" mode.
"+/-" selected by stick sport mode off. "DS" shows on tach display. Automatically selects 1st-5th, focus is power.
"+/-" selected by stick, sport mode off, manual up/down shift by stick or paddle. "M" shows on tach display. Semi-manual steptronic mode; trans will shift automatcially to prevent stall or over-rev, and will downshift to (or start in) 2nd. Otherwise manual steptronic shifting.
"D" selected by stick, sport mode on. "DS" shows on tach display. Transmission shift points are similar to mode 3, above. Steering stiffened, throttle response increased.
"D" selected by stick, sport mode on, manual up/down shift by paddle. "M" shows on tach display. This is the same as mode 2, above, with steering stiffened and throttle response increased.
"+/-" selected by stick, sport mode on. "DS" shows on tach display. Appears to be exactly the same as mode 5, above.
"+/-" selected by stick, sport mode on, manual up/down shift by stick or paddle. This is the same as mode 4, with stiffened steering and throttle response increased.
