has anyone had any tuning done to their cooper to give it a bit more welly?

Am thinking of having a chat with Lohen to see what they can do with cooper (07 plate) . Also if anyone has had anything done, how does it affect the warranty.

Would be a better and less expensive option than to upgrade to cooper S and I get to keep her in the origina design. Not to keen on some of the comestic look of the S but very impressed with her performance when I had test drive last week.

Thanks

I doubt you will get any meaningful performance upgrades without spending a LOT of cash on a Cooper.

Air Intake:
- itg do a panel filter 1-2 bhp £60 (recommend you also by-pass the resonator box using a tube or by covering the holes)
- K&N do a Apollo CAI 7bhp £175

Zorst:
- Miltek have a cat back £'00s avail from Lohen c. 5bhp (est)
- some potential gains from de-catting the manifold section but none of the tuners offer this at the mo'

ECU:
- morego & P_torque are still having problems but claim 10% torque & c.12bhp for £300

Fuel:
- Tesco 99 or Vpower make a noticable difference to throttle response, top end & economy

Warranty is down to Dealer 'claiming' non-std part affected the part that fails; TLC could theoretically be invalidated tho' as it's based on the std car. Best to notify your insurer of any mods ...

frustrating

there's nothing from MINI UK regarding a JCW kit for the Cooper

Will be keeping mine until the Audi A1, Seat Cupra Bocanegra are launched

Am looking for a tiptronic / DSG warm hatch as gf cant drive a manual & the VW group's 7 speed jobbie plus an ECU tweak on their 1.4 TFSi are v. tempting

Don't quite know how they could claim this seeing as the ECU in the R56 Cooper is a new Bosch ECU that so far cannot be communicated with using any type of equipment.

Think they must take your £300.00 and hope your mind plays tricks to keep you satisfied:D.

Had the same thought after Angel Tuning failed to communicate with MY ECU;

have you also had a similar experience / could you elaborate on the 'new Bosch ECU that so far cannot be communicated with' please

I've spoken at length with Will at p-torque (they're sponsors on here) and he's confident so am waiting for a convenient date for a trip to Wolverhampton ...

Nice idea, had not heard of this before, reads like what the Sport button does without the steering weight part

SPRINT BOOSTER THROTTLE REMAP -ALL MINIS -2008 - MiniMania.com (http://www.minimaniauk.co.uk/web/Item/NME1900/AddedFrom/Search/InvDetail.cfm)

basically seems to modify the pedal travel to throttle opening signal; one review says no effect above 60% throttle travel ... I can move my foot further for free

concerned that it will increase fuel consumption by artificially increasing fueling on light throttle, affect drive-ability in traffic

seems pricey too at £161 inc VAT + £8 delivery :puzzled:

the quest continues ...

I have been in conversation with SUPERCHIPS for some time now s i have an upcoming tuning garage in the making that i have been selling/fitting upgrades, bodykits, exhaust systems etc.

So far SUPERCHIPS have told me that the new BOSCH ECU uses a new TRICORE PROCESSOR that is almost unpenatrable with any OBD's so the data cannot be modified.

The new 307 GTI etc also use them but do not have the same security that BMW have put on theres, thus the reason there is one available for the 307 GTI etc.

I see, thx Joe; good luck with the garage;

Will at p-torque also said OBD is not an option for the R56 ECU; they take the ECU out and can then connect to it ... SUPERCHIPS Dealers should therefore be able to offer a remap, just the Bluefin won't work ... look fwd to hearing what they say about offering a 'dealer fit' remap; happy to let them use my car as a guinea pig if required

Strange accusation, if this were true, I would not have called Jon to postpone his booking :(

We have tuned plenty of MED17 equipped Mini's now, but there are many different hardware and software versions.

We have a Mini in on Friday which had a communication issue, so will let you know the results

Im sorry but if SUPERCHIPS and UNICHIP both can't communicate with the ECU's on them i cant see how anyone can as they've been in the game for a long time. Unless the Mini's you have seen are R53's or have a different ECU to every one that the BIG COMPANIES have tested:rolleyes:.

Also the Renowned ANGEL TUNING will admit that they can't communicate/remap the ECU either unless they remove it and gut it as i spoke to him recently.

Before driving out of your way call the BIG COMPANIES and check up with them and see how they feel about the situation, as if it could be done they would offer one seeing as thats the way they earn money:rolleyes:.

Hello Joe

You obviously don't know who we are because we haven't been on the forum long.

I will proove that we can do what the companies you mentioned can't. In fact I will proove this today, and am sure the member will post his results.

I can't go into detail, but we developed a map for a certain car, which a certain company you mention had major issues.

We were also one of the first to develop software for the new Audi R8, so yes, we have a few connections.

I don't want to start a forum argument, so please feel free to call me on 01902 324584 if you would like to discuss this further

Is it a COOPER S that you can chip or the COOPER aswell as i think a few places including SUPERCHIPS can map the "S" but not the COOPER.

I have done a few mods to my cooper r56 maual transmission
- sprint booster
- Custom cold air intake

Check it out...

The result is nice, more power in every gear.
My favourite thing that I got from my mods is the 6th gear, I don't have to change to the lower gear when I am on the highway, I can put down on the padel to reach the speed that I want faster:D

The sound of intake is sick, and noticable gain in hp in every top of the gear....

OH, one thing I would like to mention all oft u is the design of the pipe that connected to the thottle body, at first I use the OEM rubber<size 50-60 mm> , the result didn't impresse me at all and the sound is really really lound but after I change to slicone pipe 70mm-->70mm, The result is difference, much more flow and the sound is in the way it should be...

Sorry for my english, I'm from Thailand, hope u guy understand what I'm try to say...

Locking out the ECU seams very common now. Ive a Type R GT and you can only get a piggy back ECU for it
