: Bluefin Mini One 0-60 WHITEY_ Jun 13th, 2008, 11:58 PM Hi, anyone with a mini one with bluefin recorded their 0-60 times? I haven't seen any threads or posts on this before, I'm guessing it to be around the 8's? I heard somewhere it gets into Fiesta ST territory which isn't something to yell about too much as their performance is a bit poop for what they are. But yeh I've read about cooper times getting to low 8's so what do you think a bluefinned one can achieve with the aids of a cat-back exhaust, and carbon fiber enclosed intake? It does produce morep ower than the standard cooper but I heard the gear ratios are longer in the one. I'm hoping in the low 8's also, is 8 seconds flat dreaming a bit too much? Cheers robfish1985 Jun 14th, 2008, 02:07 PM I have had the bluefin on my One for around 18 months now and if anything the car seems to feel faster over time. I have driven a standard 115bhp cooper and it is definitely quicker than that, infact i have had numerous traffic light moments with cooper owners who obviously think mine is a standard one and the look on their faces when i take off is quite hilarious...anyway, with regard to the 0-60 time i tested mine a while back and got it down to 8.2 secs and that was with 2 people in the car so with just one in you might just achieve 8.0 dead. The difference over standard is massive to be honest, although the power only really kicks in over 4000rpm and especially over 5000rpm. My average fuel consumption over 3000 miles has been 32.4mpg which to be honest is about the same as it was before it was re-mapped, although i do give it a bit of welly quite often. I do believe the gear ratios in the one as slightly longer than the cooper but when the blufin is fitted this works to the ones advantage as 2nd gear lasts a tad longer :)
The bluefin is definitely the best mods i have bought for my MINI and i highly recommend it to anyone who currently has a one.
Hope this helps
Rob m_cooke999 Jun 14th, 2008, 05:51 PM I timed my ONE at 8.8s with Bluefin, before that it was about 10.2s 0-60. Tbh the difference is massive from standard but i think ive got used to the extra power because i don't seem to notice the kick as much. Im getting it dyno'd in a few weeks so i'll post what BHP its putting out with the bluefin MiniOneSam Jun 14th, 2008, 05:53 PM Hi, anyone with a mini one with bluefin recorded their 0-60 times? I've got one and I've managed about 9. Don't forget the One and Cooper have same engine, difference being the electronic restriction (which the Bluefin, in effect, cancels out). Go to Superchips website and note the facts...
One: Standard 90bhp + 33bhp = 123bhp
Cooper: Standard 115bhp + 8bhp = 123bhp
Both end up exactly the same as it's same engine, the Cooper was marketed as the lightly racier version of the 'City Car' One, and has slightly different gear ratios and higher top speed, Bluefin gives you great acceleration but should be exactly the same as a Cooper up to 115mph, where the One just won't go any further and the Cooper will.
I mean come on if the One and Cooper were exactly the same except for an electronic restriction do you REALLY think they would sell ANY Coopers at all? ;) WHITEY_ Jun 14th, 2008, 06:36 PM 9 seconds! I think you might have been timing wrong or not driving it properly because I've managed mid 9's in my standard (bar cat-back) One and my friends 1.4 16v Clio does 9. Also about the top speed, the 115mph is a bit of horse poop because I've managed higher, a fair amount higher. Figures on paper aren't always set in stone for the car...when it comes to the lower-powered cars anyway MiniOneSam Jun 14th, 2008, 06:38 PM 9 seconds! So what exactly do you have done to your One? Because I'm pretty sure the gears top out at 115ish, I'd love to know how much higher you've had it? WHITEY_ Jun 14th, 2008, 06:44 PM I've just got Playmini Slashcut Cat-back and I think I had my Pipercross open cone on at the time but not anymore due to the rise in temporature and heat soak etc. I'm looking to buy a BMC CDA enclosed intake after the Bluefin which I'm buying next week :D Darthbladerni Jun 15th, 2008, 12:32 PM So what exactly do you have done to your One? I have had my one about 6 mph over top speed.
You wouldnt do it often though, would wreck the car very quickly. m_cooke999 Jun 15th, 2008, 01:35 PM 100mph is 4k revs in 5th gear in mine, so i dont know what the top speed will be... for those of you that want to know it was on private land on which this speed was achived WHITEY_ Jun 15th, 2008, 01:52 PM well the speed i managed was done in 4th gear, I think it could top out in 4th. That was from using every gear upto about 6k revs from 2nd MiniOneSam Jun 15th, 2008, 03:57 PM Well I went to a track day recently and at 4.5k revs I was getting 94mph in 5th, so I don't know how others are getting 100mph at 4k!! WHITEY_ Jun 15th, 2008, 06:39 PM yeah I agree at 4k revs I'm at around 90mph in 5th m_cooke999 Jun 15th, 2008, 06:55 PM Really? Mines deffinatley 100mph at 4k so how come my gearing differs so much? I'm only changing into 4th gear at about 90mph. At 100 its still willing to keep on accelerating Weemann Jun 15th, 2008, 07:13 PM got 126mph outta mine!!! blue-finned that is!!! I just still dont understand that, I'm bluefinned AND have a cold air feed leading to Pipercross induction, I've still had only 115 :confused::confused: WHITEY_ Jun 15th, 2008, 08:20 PM think theres something wrong with yours sam :P you buying an exhaust at all in the future? Because as I've said managed 120 with cat-back and open cone in a non-bluefinned one MiniOneSam Jun 15th, 2008, 08:36 PM think theres something wrong with yours sam :P you buying an exhaust at all in the future? Don't know yet as university is on the cards and to be honest I'm currently unsure as to what will happen to the Mini when I go. If I can take it with me, then yes it probably will be on the cards, but as for now it's staying relatively as it is...do any of the other people who've posted here have an exhaust or anything? Knowing other's mods would be useful please? David King Jun 15th, 2008, 10:01 PM Ive had 125mph indicated in my Cooper, could of got more but i had to slow for a corner.
Also is quite largely affected by slopes. My sisters Astra 1.8 tops out at 110 on a flat road yet can get 115 plus on a downward slope. Weeman has a facelift ONE with slightly different gearing which could be the difference. MiniOneSam Jun 15th, 2008, 10:42 PM Weeman has a facelift ONE with slightly different gearing which could be the difference.
Did they make the facelift Ones a bit racier then?
EDIT: Ohhhh GETRAG gearboxes possibly? RyanK Jun 15th, 2008, 10:52 PM I've had 120-130mph out of my ONE. Didn't really pay attention to be honest was concentrating too much...but it was definately no more than 130! My guess is about 125. This was travelling on a downhill gradient.
I have getrag gearbox. Thought you also got a new gearbox when yours broke Sam? MiniOneSam Jun 15th, 2008, 11:06 PM I've had 120-130mph out of my ONE. Don't think it was a GETRAG, I thought they just replaced them with refurbed Midland's  Did they tell you they'd put a GETRAG? How would I find out what I have now? RyanK Jun 15th, 2008, 11:09 PM Not too sure mate. Before my new box got fitted I was told that it was a brand new one that was going into the car. This was partly covered by warranty MiniOneSam Jun 15th, 2008, 11:15 PM Not too sure mate. Before my new box got fitted I was told that it was a brand new one that was going into the car. Hmm. Only reason I'm unsure is I've been told they merely fitted refurbed Midlands into your car if or scenario occurs. I might ring them and ask "just out of curiosity" lol :p If I DO have a GETRAG then I'll be thrashing it a lot more, bloody reliable those things!! Used in the Skyline R34 GT-R ;) WHITEY_ Jun 16th, 2008, 09:03 AM Is the getrag really THAT much better than the Midlands? and in what ways? Smoother gear changes, not as stiff and clunky? Also do the GETRAGs suffer from the renowned reverse gear select problem? MiniOneSam Jun 16th, 2008, 10:19 AM Is the getrag really THAT much better than the Midlands? and in what ways? They're THAT much better in the fact they don't have a tendancy to, how shall I put it, go 'bang' like many of us have experienced :p I'm trying to establish whether or not the GETRAG's are better performance or not  David King Jun 16th, 2008, 10:40 AM They changed the gear ratios, but i dont know if they changed them for better or for worse top speed/acceleration.
Getrag isnt really much better apart from in the respect of reliability. WHITEY_ Jun 16th, 2008, 10:44 AM Well I've got an 03 One with Midlands box and I've had no serious problems with mine yet, touch wood. The small issues with not going into reverse and 1st now and again have gotten more noticeable as the miles have gone up but I'm used to it now. Its still a good gearbox, feels good and solid, gear changes are solid and direct, not like these flimsy spongey things you find in Clios and the like. One thing that does quite annoy me a bit, don't know if anyone else has the same issue with their Midlands is when at high RPMs going from 1st to 2nd is really quite hard. I actually have to fight with the gear stick and really yank it out of 1st its quite hard work. Mine's a 53 (Feb 2004) and my original Midland box went in January at 40,400 miles. Don't know how many miles you've done but be careful, I had that reverse/first gear issue and sometimes still do. They're not as good as you think :o  Take it from Ryan and I ;) m_cooke999 Jun 16th, 2008, 12:04 PM My mini is a standard R50 ONE with K&N pannel and Bluefin | |
