Sunrise Run III ... The Initial Brainstorming Thread (http://nemini.org/index.php?topic=11137.0) GBMINI Jul 23rd, 2008, 02:22 AM Thanks for the link :) NoNo Jul 23rd, 2008, 12:31 PM That was tons of fun several years ago. I highly recommend it! pezboy Jul 23rd, 2008, 02:18 PM How many wheels have been dented on this run, to date? NoNo Jul 23rd, 2008, 04:00 PM Ah, there's Mr. Sunshine! pezboy Jul 23rd, 2008, 06:04 PM Peter busted 2 (on his new car) in about 30 minutes the last time I was in a car in NYC.
I don't make stuff up!! senorsock3 Jul 26th, 2008, 12:12 PM Sounds like fun! Thanks for posting! Aurel Jul 28th, 2008, 09:30 PM Thanks Pete for posting this!
How many wheels have been dented on this run, to date?
no wheels busted on any previous run. Heck I am always in the city and I DO drive like the taxis with no incidents in 5 years time.
I never understood why everyone freaks out about Manhattan.
either way, the route I picked is pretty harmless and we will slow down in areas that are a bit rough and give a go on ones that are well paved.
and NoNo ... Mazda's ARE welcome (only yours :) ) ... I lasted 9 months in mine :) ravioliworld Jul 28th, 2008, 09:56 PM The only trouble I've had in Manhattan is running over horse $#it near central park. In most cases you can't go fast enough on the streets to have problems. Now, on the highways in Brooklyn/Queens/Bronx you can definitely pop a wheel there. Actual Size Jul 29th, 2008, 01:10 PM Likewise...I've never had a problem driving all over Manhattan. It's fun competing with the cabbies. Just avoid the FDR. ;)
Wish we could make this one but we'll be on our annual trip to Watkins Glen for the vintage races. NoNo Jul 29th, 2008, 01:37 PM What? You're not in the Mazda anymore? For shame! If I go, do I have to drive in the back? :p Aurel Jul 29th, 2008, 07:36 PM LOL ... you can be smack in the middle.
Yeah, that car was not for me. I was getting horrendous fuel economy in the city, was a bit tight for longer runs for my lurch frame and the Japanese sterile feel just wasn't me.
I lucked out getting good money after just 9 months. Sitting in a Clubman now. Actual Size Jul 30th, 2008, 01:23 PM If I go, do I have to drive in the back? :p
,,,and park far, far away from the MINIs. uptick Aug 6th, 2008, 04:14 PM Peter busted 2 (on his new car) in about 30 minutes the last time I was in a car in NYC.
I don't make stuff up!!
Good memory! I had a full load in my MCS. You, and ants and some girl in the back.
Second Ave, north of Bowery, manhole open operation - where the manhole plate was in place but the pavement around it WAS NOT!
Anyway, the Sunrise run will be fun, or funny. There will be cobblestones, manhole covers (=slalom), and food :p.
Aurel is capping it at 35 MINIs. So be sure to RSVP to him directly.
NoNo wants to sweep? Aurel Aug 7th, 2008, 04:41 PM Thanks to everyone who replied so far!!!

Enjoy! tedsmini Nov 18th, 2008, 12:12 AM THAT looks like one fun time (and as a western NYer living out in the sticks, that's not something I normally say about my perception of NYC)! I was actually in Long Island on the 9th, had heard something about this run, but I had just gotten my MINI and was already freaked about how in Hades I was going to survive Long Island.
Excellent job on the video! It looks like everyone had a GREAT time. Who knows how next year will shake out, but I might have to consider joining you...
What has this MINI done to me ?? GBMINI Nov 18th, 2008, 12:42 AM Spectacular, Peter; just wonderful :D
How on earth did you get all that footage - it looked like you did the run at least 3 times! :) ravioliworld Nov 18th, 2008, 01:35 AM Spectacular, Peter; just wonderful :D
it looked like you did the run at least 3 times! :)
Well, he was in at least three different verts....:) ontheroadagain Nov 18th, 2008, 03:16 AM Fantastic job, Peter! As I posted on NEMINI, there's definitely an Oscar in this for you!:nice:
Yes, tedsmini, we all did have a super time and there was nothing at all to be worried about thanks to the wonderful organizational skills of our fearless leaders Aurel and Trevor.:D
Peter, thanks so much for pulling this together, and I really appreciated your dedicating it to Ed, Jackman and Diane - all were truly wonderful people, as well as insane MINIacs, and all there for that 1st Sunrise Run.
Really a great job! | |
