I'm thinking of upgrading my rear ARB to one of the Alta items. I'm just not sure which size will be best, 19mm or 22mm? Does anyone have either fitted to their R56? What are your thoughts?

I couldn't decide between the 2 either so I'm getting a 20mm:D

I'm using an Hsport 19mm adjustable rear sway bar set to its centre position.

Its brilliant on the road, I just wish the front end of the car was as stable!

I don't track my car so can't comment on track use.

I would recommend the 19mm for the road, the good thing about the Alta one is that it comes with 3 adjustments. I had a 19mm on my prev.mini and it was perfect in my eyes for road use and occasional track use.

Benny,

I fitted the 18.5mm JCW rear ARB. I worked out that this was equivalent to the ALTA 19mm bar setting somewhere inbetween mid and hard setting ( there's info posted somewhere:confused:)

A very subtle but worthwhile mod. It gives the front end more bite without making the rear end skittish or choppy.

The JCW bar is less than £60 too:smile:

Hey, just curious how you worked out it was the same as the alta bar between middle and hard? I couldn't find that info anywhere :s

I have the Alta 22mm one fitted to our R56 which also has the JCW suspension fitted as well. There is zero body roll now and you can induce lift-off over steer at will....nice!

Depends how mad you are?

Paul are you going to the rolling road at Amd again this year for the Italian job fund raising?

Can't remember for sure, but IIRC i looked at the ALTA published settings / stiffness increase relative to OEM std. bar and then ran the calcs on the 18.5mm bar and compared the two. The 18.5mm bar has the end link hole in the same place as the std. bar so it's a pure calc to work out the increase.

Oh yes, I will be there.....wouldn't miss the doughnuts for anything!

I'm looking forward to it, our R56 S gave a reading of 207.9bhp at the crank last time with just an ITG foam filter and a tank full of Shell V Power. I'm interested to see what difference, if any, the Milltek cat' and Works rigid turbo inlet pipe has made?

But what I'm really interested in is, how much bhp the two Factory R56 S's are producing?

Paul.

There is also going to be a R56 Cooper S with a full Milltek turbo back and performance torque stage 2 remap there as well i think. I'm looking forward to it! As you say it will be interesting what the R56 Works cars are putting down.
