: delay in taking up drive

I have a 2008 mini one auto and the following problem has been in existence since day one.
It has been back to the dealers 3 times (two weeks the last time) and still not fixed.
If i draw up to a roundabout or a junction, slow down and then have to accelerate into traffic there is a delay before it picks up the drive, which is frightening to say the least.
I bought a manual and an auto as company cars and no one will drive the auto as it is downright dangerous.
Further points to note.
when you press the accelerator at a junction it does not rev up, absolutey nothing happens and them it surges forward.
I have had automatics for 25 years and have never know this, and I don't want to hear the excuse as from my local BMW service manager " this isn' t really an automatic you know" ********.
If it says auto on the box etc.
I am inclined to think it may be fuel rathe rthan gearbox problems but hey ho I am not a technician what happened to car mechanics.
any views appreciated

if the fault has been there since day one and they still haven't fixed it reject the car................it's just not good enough, and as you point out downright dangerous !!

I'm sure I've heard other Mini auto owners say the car needs quite a bit of gas to make a quick getaway at junctions. Do you get creep at idle?

Try another dealer or another car to see if it's any better?

I have two autos and have not had this problem with either of them - it you've had this problem from new and they have had three goes at fixing it, I would reject the car and ask for a new one on the grounds that it is not fit for purpose and dangerous.

we only had the car for 12 months it was a step up to her new mini cooper s auto which does not have that problem thank god !!!!!!

I had the same problem in my Cooper S but I changed the fuel to high octane, BP Ultimate in my case and the problem is much reduced now.

How did you end up going with this issue?

Just curious, how long does it delay before it surges forward?

If you are not happy with the outcome of the repair, I would suggest involving trading standards and ask for there input. They will open a case file and maybe write to the dealer to rectify by a certain time. speak to them for advice!!!

Sorry to drag up such an old thread, but I have recently purchased a used Mini One. It is only five month's old and has exactly this problem - the delayed start from a stop. I noticed it first on the test drive and thought it was just because I had not put my foot down hard enough on the accelerator.

Is this just something I need to put up with i.e. it is just the way that it drives, or should I speak to my dealer about this issue? I'm almost tempted to take a test drive elsewhere to get an idea for myself but it is not always possible to recreate the conditions required.

After a near miss on a roundabout and whilst trying to get past a car which had suddenly decided to stop, it is something of a problem and could be dangerous.

Apart from that, loving the car and all the helpful advice on this forum. :)
