I'm sure I was told that our car was actually due in the dealers before their demostrators! I just hope they've got the hang of how to build the things! Still waiting details on the JCW kit - the car may have to go back in to have it fitted - may tie in nicely as we are away over Easter so the car could be done then?
My wife's a bit miffed though that the Convertible S doesn't have the funky alloy (look) fuel cover! Does anyone know why? Even my dealer couldn't say why!
Answers please.................
I'm off to the Geneva Motorshow next week, so should get a chance to sit in one there!
Cheers G

My 2009 MINI Cooper S Convertible (at least the spec is finally finished...) The 111 stage is just before the frame enters production. So yeah, pretty much its in the idea stage as far as MINI is concerned.
Here it is:

Chili Red
Black Top
White Turn Signals
Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
Xenon Headlamps w/Power Wash
6-Speed Auto w/Agitronic Mode
All Season Tires
17" Black Star Bullet (Perf. Rft)
Dynamic Tracton Control
Leather: Punch Carbon Black
Computer Nav. System
Rooster Red Color Line
Interior Surface Brushed Alloy
Comfort Bluetooth with USB/iPod Adapt.
Center Arm Rest
Interior Color: Carbon Black

no rear fog lamps...
no bonnet stripes
And after I receive it I am planning on the Custom Paint work.
So It's a sporty smooth look I think....

Nice, very nice Derepente!

Just one observation - I am not totally impressed with the white indicators/turn lights factory option as provided. Why? Becuase they still supply orange bulbs behind the clear filters, so it you still see orange! For the pure white look we are after, we have had to get special chromed bulbs....it seems a pity that MINI don't include these bulbs as part of this option (like our old VW did.....)

Counting the days!

Ian, I asked the dealers about this. US spec MINIs have to have "something orange" in the turn signal indicators. There are some states that don't require that, but MINI won't go that far in the "you-ification" process to let you get completely white indicators. no worries, I don't mind really. Counting with you, Cheers - William

Hi Turbodriver

I'm off to the Geneva Motorshow next week, so should get a chance to sit in one there!
Cheers G

Would you mind checking to see what they say about using the old wind deflector on the new convertible? I have one but some say it won't fit the new R57. Really hoping I can use it!

I'll try and remember to ask - just hope that there are knowledgeable reps on the stand! Not just PR staff!

This is my first post on Mini2. I came over from NAM. I'm in the US, and my dealer offered me one of 7 launch vehciles allocated to them and allowed me to customize it as I saw fit. After it was all done, mine was assigned a Week 10 build, however it was built during the same time as the other launch cars for the US Market; half way through Week 9 (Production started on Feb 24th, and ended on March 3rd). As of Friday March 6th, it's on a freighter destined for the West Coast, so if all goes well, maybe I'll have it the day of the Launch (March 28th, right)?

Hello Zanary, Welcome to MINI2 and possibly...Congratulations! You would be lucky to get your vehicle so soon as most of us are getting forced to taking a back seat to the Dealer and Demo R57s being built at this time.

Wish you the best of luck and you know what you have to do next, right? Post pictures and write about your drive experience!

Just got back from Geneva - and had a great time (despite jet2.com doing their best at messing us all around!)
So I've sat in three Mini convertibles - played with the hood, twisted poked and prodded - and pleased to say rear visibility is miles better than the old one!
I asked about the wind deflector compatibility and was told that it wasn't the same. The new car is wider (?) and won't fit.
So not long now until we can check the water tightness of the hood and prove the new edge gutter stops water pouring onto the seat when you open the door LOL!!

Thanks turbodriver...even if not good news for Derepente's wind deflector, it will be good news for back-seat passengers if there is more room!

Do you mean rear visibility is also better with the roof up? That is very good news

Hope to see more pictures...... ;)

Just so you all know, I'm off to the South of France on the 20th (next Friday) to drive a MINI Convertible back to the UK, I'll have it for a full week to test, prod and poke about.

I'm going to write a full review for theSwitchback and hopefully for here also (but it will be on theSwitchback first). I've also set up a twitter account (http://twitter.com/theSwitchback"), where I will try and report anything significant as I go along.

Lucky you, Paul! Any idea yet which model?

If your route takes you through Luxembourg......sorry, but I will be in the USA next week :D

Enjoy!

I've yet to ask, although I've apparently got to avoid blue ones, thanks to a "premonition" and Abi being freaked out a bit. :D

Bet you get an Interchange Yellow MCSC. I hope you enjoy it Paul! Twitter, eh? I might have to give that medium a try afterall...

Hey Turbodriver, nice post! Really appreciate checking on the wind deflector. So, I will be trying to sell mine here. The dealership sold some test drive model cabrios recently and those owners are looking for a wind deflector. Any how cool that the rear got wider?! Even if its only a few Millimeters, more width for the rear passengers is great!

This was the only other picture I took on the Mini stand - I thought i'd taken a few more? The lack of upright / exposed roll hoops makes all the difference. I did get very dark though when the roof shut! All the stand cars had additional lighting though for display of course. A good reason to keep the roof open!

Got a call from the dealer - my car has been completed, and will shortly be delivered!

A pity I can't now collect until 7th April...... but it will certainly be worth the wait! (that will be 955 days between ordering and taking delivery - easily beating the 880 days I had to wait for my previous cabrio!!!)

Well on Monday this week ours was "status 5055 which means the spec is final now and will go into build at any point!" So should be good for delivery on the 28th?
A mere 120 days wait!

28th sounds a little tight to me - a lot may depend on the availability of transport from the factory to your dealer, and then how long the dealer takes to do their stuff. Although this is approaching the end of the quarter, the current economic climate could work in your favour....

Fingers crossed for you, and all other patient, loyal R57 customers!

Any more crossed...I'd be a human pretzel. So I decided to let go.
It's coming and mid april is the expected time. Just make sure the rest of you guys send loads of photos. I want to see those R57s in all their glory!! I'll do the same!

Cheers!!

You guys sound like the first two that will get cabrios from the MINI2 family. Can't wait to see the pictures!!

Dalboyne, it'll be intersting to hear how long the "delivery" part of the journey takes. congrats again!

Thanks very much! Sad thing is, the car will be ready on the due date, but I will not be available to collect until a week later!

Greetings from DC!

What a coincidence... I am headed that way first part of May. Soon, Those will be the roads the new MINI will be riding on.

This might sound stupid but I am having the JCW aero 2 kit c/w wheels arches fitted and painted by my local bodyshop on 26/27 march. It will then be returned to Wood of Bournemouth and handed over to me on the 29 march, the day after the launch.

Derepente
Mar 19th, 2009, 09:05 PM
How do you mean? If that's how you like your MINI, go for it. I don't quite understand though... You are getting the wheel arches painted? So the Whole Aero Kit will be body color? That's similar to what I am getting done.
Nice, please post photos of your ride after the mod.

"Cheverísimo" or the R57 we have on order...has been delayed!
Spoke to the dealer today expecting him to give me a VIN number. What I got was a surprise delay. I really thought I had missed this bullet. He says it is something to do with production management at BMW/MINI. What ever that means. But basically, something has delayed the start of production for our order and now it been moved to Week 15 Build. Here's hoping we get delivery by end of April.
For all those expecting an R57...check with your dealers to make sure its truly being built when they say.
Cheers!

Sorry to hear about that - but better than getting one that has suffered production issues!

Could be as simple as a delivery delay? My dealer had previously warned me that the end of the quarter is notoriously bad for this.

Still hoping to pick mine up on 7th April!
