I was just wondering with the current economic climate, if used values have been affected & if anyone has managed to get a discount on a new car.:nice:

That's FAB. Am I right in thiking that a while ago MINI's were not being dicounted at all, or is that a load of Beau Larks?

A year + ago, very seldom you would read a discount off new price, just measures taken by dealers to keep their unit sold numbers up I suppose?
Theres always discount to be had on Cherished deals ;)

There are currently factory incentives on most models. I saw the internal bulletin on a dealer's desk.

Emphasis is to sell 2008 cars in stock.

For unsold cars left over from 2008 production:

On a Mini One they are offering a free Salt pack or Pepper Pack for price of Salt. (That's a £915 discount) There is a promotional finance rate too.

Cooper has similar offers. Something like Free Pepper or Chili for price of Pepper. I don't recall the exact details so I could be a little wrong on this.

Not sure if there is an incentive on a MCS or a Clubman.

For new customer ordered 2009 production cars, the offer is £500 cash towards your deposit. This ends up not being as good a deal, since the new production cars have a price increase.

I've also seen reports of people doing a little better than the factory offers, but we haven't been able to -- yet.

what about trade in values to a dealer, have these significantly dropped?

Just to clarify the current offer:

All all 2008 production MINI's (new cars that are unregistered but built)-

MINI one- free salt pack

MINI one- pepper pack for the price of salt

MINI cooper- free pepper pack

Cooper Chili- upto £1000 off

Cooper S & JCW Chili- £750 off

__________________________________________________ ___________

On new MINI's factory orders only:

£500 deposit contribution on MINI select on MINI one and Cooper

£750 deposit contribution on clubman, s and JCW.

Now is never a better time to buy a MINI, as new unregistered stock is selling fast, and once they sell, discounts will get smaller again.

hmmmm with the current climate after buying a pre-owned mini cooper cabio, I was thinking of buying another but the discounts are to small. I guess working in new and pre-owned high end sales both in canada and the UK, I know there is money to play with in new and used cars at the price they take in trades and making around £2000 -£2500 profit on each one. I am sure if you word it right and haggle you should get a great deal as manu and dealers are hurting right now. Oh and the manu offers has nothing to do with the dealer profit you were thinking.

The profit is based on pre-owned not new :D

Haggle Haggle Haggle till the sales person brakes under the pressure he or she has a target to meet.

I bet the dealers on here hate me now lol its only business and nothing personnal.

Guess that is why they call me Cheeky

IIf you think a MINI dealer makes or even has £2,000 or more in a used car then you are living in another planet!! a bmw then maye but a MINI, i bet most used MINI's on dealers forecourts only have about £700 in them if that.

Hi Magic Carl why dont you post the spec/ price it was and the price you paid, some dealers will bump the original price up on the used car you bought, so we can see what good a deal you got, where as some dealers price them more competitvely to start with,

We've a R57 Cooper S on order for end March/Begin April. Discounts HaHa ----- it's a new model etc etc. But being as this will be the 3rd new Mini we've bought, the dealer has agreed to 'deal' on some of the 'dealer fit' extras. Not too generous though! I managed to get 10% (£2650) off the spec'd price on a new A3 bought for one of my employees! Suppose though this will protect the residuals long term? Here's hoping!

I went to a Sytner dealer today (MINI), and was in there for about an hour trying to get a deal.

However they said they could not provide a discount on most MINIs (used), and i think some have a margin, but only possibly £500.

The whole £1000 - £2000 savings do not seem to exist in some dealers. I guess shop around. but they didnt seem to want to discount for me today.

In fact it only seems that dealers are increasing forecourt prices... strange

They are increasing the forecourt prices because everyone is going round thinking what a great time it is to get loads of money off when buying a car in the current climate.

All over they are advertising massive discounts on new cars such as:

you can get £8000 off of a New Renault Megane Coupe Convertible - this makes it £11.800. (close to half price!)
And these deals are everywhere on the vauxhall, renault, nissan and ford dealerships.

People expect the same from mini.
You might do on the R57 as the sales have been poor and they have been overproduced like the 4 above mentioned brands.
But second hand market is not half as affected.

So, to get to my point: Mini are putting up the forecourt prices of the cherished cars because every tom dick and harry wants to feel like he has got a good deal, and the only way to keep a business making profit and to keep a customer is to make the customer feel like they have got a good deal.

I am pretty sure most people who buy cherished, knows they are paying a little bit more than what they could get a similar car for privatley.

There are a lot of second hand minis on the private market, just waiting to be snapped up and thats where the deals are to be had. Especially when you find the cars that have been up for sale for a little while and they are moving abroad and need shot of the car asap.

i managed to get MINI to take £1500 off my S, with free Bodycare, free TLC and the dealer putting £350 towards the cost of the car.

depends who you ask, how you ask, and how you do business. flat out asking for money off isn't going to work. if they think you're going to walk away from the deal, a quick "i'm not too sure, it's quite a big commitment... are you sure you cant do anything on the price at all ?" normally helps matters :]

Used prices are starting to creep back up due to a shortage of Used stock. the main seller is the cooper S which offers ana mazing proposition to buyers, excellent performance with low running costs, just search and see how many Cooper S's 9 (new shape) are available in dealers, not as many as usual

There dont seem to be that many used R53 S's about either - last one was sold recently at the dealership near me... hopefully I will end up getting the money I want for my car when I come to sell mine afterall...

As someone who is px'ing his Cooper S prices most certainly are not creaping up and there is no shortage of used stock.

Some dealers would not bid on my car due to overstock. The max px price on my 18month old Cooper S is 11k against a new £21.5k Mini. The bullet proof value of the Mini is no more and some dealers are giving in to the market regarding used values.

Based on a 40 miles radius search of my post code:

Sytners at Leicester have:
a nicely spec'd 11-2008 Cooper S with 9k on the clock for £16850 (3 1/2 months old!!)
a nicely spec'd 12-2008 Cooper S with 1k on the clock for £16850 (2 1/2 months old!)

Listers Kings Lynne have a 10-2008 Cooper S for £15888

Based on my Cooper S re-appearing on a forecourt at an expected £13500, my car has depreciated at over £270 per month. Mini are trying to talk the figure up but try selling your Cooper S at the moment and the see the reality bite hard.

Most main dealers used to typically have between £1500 to £2000 in a used car to play with. A good number are eating into that buffer to reduce the screen price and shift stock. A dealer saying he only has £500 in a used car is pushing things a bit though   as they'd soon be out of business if that was true.

The Cooper D residuals seem to be very strong in this climate of belt tightening and money saving, maybe I should have bought one of those instead.

Very true - there is a guy on here who got more in PX for his Dooper than I was offered on my 210JCW...

i managed to get MINI to take £1500 off my S, with free Bodycare, free TLC and the dealer putting £350 towards the cost of the car.So, just to get this right, within the past couple of weeks you have agreed a deal giving discounts on a new S of: i. £950 for the Chilli pack offer one from MINI, ii. £550 from the dealership itself, ii. £185 for TLC (presumably coming from the dealer's already-reduced profit, even though they claim there's a reduced margin atm due to the Chilli offer) and, say, £150 for the bodycare thing, again presumably from the dealership's profit. Actually, it's not clear, but you also seem to be saying the dealer is giving anothr £350?

And you could, if required, produce an invoice to back all this up?

I don't mean to sound blunt with you there, or disbelieving; I just want to be sure what deals others are genuinely getting, as dealers are too quick to say 'It's all internet BS!' I'm getting a bit confused because someone on this forum reckoned they got £1800 all-told off a Cooper S recently, but my nearest dealerships are having none of it, suggesting that not much over £1000 is more like it (and most of that is coming from MINI). They are also sticking to 'over 10% APR' on the finance, so we're not really getting anywhere...

PS. You weren't talking about a *used* car, were you?
