: R57 - When? dalboyne Feb 10th, 2009, 08:43 PM Does anyone yet have a firm date when they will be handed their keys to ther new convertible?
I understand that the official launch of the new model is to be on 28th March, but has anyone been told for sure that they will get their car on that same date? Or is it actually going to be "early April" for real customers as opposed to dealer demonstrators?
Ian Derepente Feb 11th, 2009, 05:12 AM you already know my answer...early April. Ant FR Feb 11th, 2009, 07:42 AM march the 28th for the JCw too read the other posts as it was announced yesterday Paul Feb 11th, 2009, 08:31 AM march the 28th for the JCw too read the other posts as it was announced yesterday
It was announced last week, photos and prices came out Yesterday. ;) dalboyne Feb 11th, 2009, 09:36 AM Yes indeed - March 28th for the launch
But what does this mean in terms of deliveries to long-waiting paying customers? This is not so clear, and so far I have found no-one who says they have been told the will have their car on this date.....
(Since I'm obliged to make travel plans around this event, it's quite frustrating!) Derepente Feb 11th, 2009, 05:37 PM Because my car has to clear customs between the UK and Germany, I can't give a firm " keys in hand date". I found out to day that my car is now at stage 111 in the build process. It is scheduled for Week 13 for sure now. That means It could be at the dealers by the 10th of April. dalboyne Feb 11th, 2009, 08:59 PM Because my car has to clear customs between the UK and Germany, I can't give a firm " keys in hand date". A shame you can't shave a few days and collect in the UK! I would have loved to pickup direct from Plant Oxford, but this is (inexplicably) a service they don't offer? Paul Feb 16th, 2009, 08:25 AM Bit of speculation regarding the delays for you: 850 MINI makers lose their jobs among MINI Convertible launch confusion | theSwitchback (http://theswitchback.com/news/850-mini-makers-lose-their-jobs-among-mini-convertible-launch-confusion) dalboyne Feb 16th, 2009, 10:47 AM Excellent article Paul - good assessment of the situation! Derepente Feb 16th, 2009, 12:23 PM Awfully bad news! Thanks for the update, Paul, I couldn't find the news elsewhere. frank1330 Mar 6th, 2009, 01:29 PM My S convertible is due to be finished March 13. Don't know quite how long it will take, but highly unlikely it will be in Connecticut before early-mid April. dalboyne Mar 6th, 2009, 04:25 PM My S convertible is due to be finished March 13. Welcome to MINI2, Frank! Sorry it takes a bit longer to get across the pond, but hope you find the wait is worth it!
When did you place your order, by the way?
Ian Derepente Mar 7th, 2009, 04:59 PM Hello Frank1330, well its all speculation but some information tends to make the waiting pain a little less sharp...temporarily:
I spoke with my dealer about the shipping aspect of our deal. When MINI/BMW ships cars to the US it can take as few as 10 days and as long as 4 weeks. Does that help, no probably not, but at least you know about when you can ask your dealer the question "has it shipped?".
You can even call 1800 ASK MINI. I did, but they couldn't help me since my vehicle is a european order for a US MINI. Since yours is a US Ordered MINI, make sure to try the owners lounge (http://ol.miniusa.com) . There you are supposed to be able to track your cars progress in the fabrication and shipping journey.
Good luck, welcome to MINI2! | |
