So MINI is seriously introducing a new diesel range to the US
It is said to have a new engine not the same as the current engine

"a U.S. diesel Mini — if there is one — would use a new-generation clean-diesel engine rather than a modified version of the overseas diesel.”

Could this be the "efficient" engine hinted for the 2010 convertible.
Less than 110g/km please!:)

Had that on the day of the news... ;) There’s something about MINI | theSwitchback (http://theswitchback.com/news/theres-something-about-mini)

It's interesting, it will be interesting to see what they come up with and how they decide to go with regards US specific or replacement Cooper D engine.

Yes I read that Paul....................
I think that the hint previously dropped that there would be a new diesel engine in the diesel convertible and this anouncement might mean that this would be the first outing of this new engine

The USA today article suggests that the new engines would be accross the range.

The ubiquitous PSA 1.6D is already one of the most efficient diesel engines around although the new VW 1.6D looks good as does the the existing BMW 2.0D which is probably better.

Might be tempted to follow dalboyne and buy a clubman AND a new convertible.......................

I can't see it working any other way, wouldn't make sense really, although with the US being an increasingly important market you never know what they'll do.
