: JCW Strut Brace Opinions!!! miniman23 Feb 16th, 2009, 05:54 PM Hi Guys,
I was thinking in purchasing a JCW Strut Brace for my R56 Cooper S and fitting it on myself as I have been told its easy.
Does anyone recommend me doing this or can I fit it incorrectly and then the car may pull to one side whilst driving? Is it better to buy and let BMW do this?
Please advise anyone.
Paul montys-jcw Feb 16th, 2009, 08:31 PM You be able to fit this yourself no problem.
I was able to put mine on on minutes. As long as you use comon sense and tighten everything up...you'll be fine. miniman23 Feb 16th, 2009, 08:46 PM OK thanks, I believe just make sure the distances at each end is the same too?
Do you find any benefits after having this fitted? if so whats are the benefits? Roma Feb 16th, 2009, 08:48 PM There is a specific torque required to tighten the nuts that secure the strut brace and there is a specific technique to ensure that it's fitted 'evenly'. If you can meet both of these requirements then it should be straightforward but I had it fitted by BMW.
Highly recommended. It tightens up the front end nicely and cornering feels more assured and flatter. miniman23 Feb 16th, 2009, 08:51 PM There is a specific torque required to tighten the nuts that secure the strut brace and there is a specific technique to ensure that it's fitted 'evenly'. OK cool, I have read the PDF of instructions to fit this now and it says no special tools required as they are only hex nuts. I just need to make sure its fitted evenly. adam_Randell Feb 17th, 2009, 04:13 PM they are supposed to be at a set torque - so a torque wrench is adviseable, but not essential grodenglaive Feb 17th, 2009, 04:46 PM very easy to do, just follow the instructions (for which I lost the link sorry). Torque for the strut tower nuts is 25 foot.pounds IIRC. miniman23 Feb 17th, 2009, 05:15 PM Thanks for that guys, where and how much for a torque wrench??? B&Q or Halfords? montys-jcw Feb 18th, 2009, 08:05 PM hey
i would think that all this about torque settinsg is correct and recommened...however i took mine off my old mini to put on my new one.It had been fitted from my dealer but when i took it of, the hex nuts were not done up very tight and even one of the locking nut was lose.Infact i was able to put it on beter that my bmw dealer. So my advice is do it yourself. miniman23 Feb 18th, 2009, 10:06 PM very easy to do, just follow the instructions (for which I lost the link sorry).
