: High Starting RPM?

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2004 MCS with 45k miles on the clock and I was just curious to know if it is normal that when I start the engine my rpm jumps to 2000rpm (sometimes to around 2100rpm) then gradually settles at around 750rpm (This happens both when the engine is warm or cold). In my experience of cars they normaly hit 1500rpm max when starting up.

Thanks, Lee

I seem to get a healthy blip on start up (whether or not it's the early morning very cold start up, or aty the end of the working day, when the MCS has been sitting in a nice warm garage). Probably around 2000rpm, but if there's any variation, I wouldn't be worried about it.

Think mines about the same expect my idle is higher for different reasons. I wouldnt worry about it myself as it settles pretty quickly normally.

Mine fires up to 2k ish then within 1 second settles down to 1200 if cold then down within a few seconds to 1000 in the cold or 800 or so in the warm. If yours is clinging on to these revs for longer than that then maybe a dicky o2 sensor causing rich fueling or lean fueling and somehow the car thinks it needs more revs to stop it stalling at first?
