: Wind Deflectors - Are They Worth It? markymc Apr 4th, 2009, 12:56 AM for nearly £200 is it worth buying a wind deflector? Surely the whole point of a convertible is to feel the wind lapping at your hair, but I feel mysteriously drawn to buying one, would I be wasting my money? Any, I mean ANY thoughts and opinions appreciated...
Cheers 85NIXMIN Apr 4th, 2009, 03:48 AM Well your lucky its only 200 pounds where you are... I rang up my local MINI Garage and they want $800 for a wind deflector!!!!!!!! :o Sam S Apr 4th, 2009, 04:20 PM They can become a bit of a pain if you carry passengers in the rear. But they make a noticable difference. 'er in doors' won't drive with the roof off without it in.
We did this once with passengers in the rear and the moaning at the end of the journey. 'My hair is ruined . . . ' etc.
I have short hair so couldn't care less but, having seen her's lashing across her face i can imagine it is a bit distracting. Marisa Apr 4th, 2009, 07:12 PM Deflectors..........absolutely ESSENTIAL!
In my country I nearly always drive with the lid off, and must arrive at my job looking fresh and neat. Without the deflector this couldn't happen as my longish hair would be a total mess! Sebastian KL Apr 5th, 2009, 11:53 AM I tried the deflector for few days when friend of mine bought it for his car.
Very different driving experience. If you drive alone, with the top down,
just put your hand between sits as if you were to reach behind, you will
notice how windy is there. The deflector will reduce the air turbulence and noise when driving at higher speed.
Secondly, the shape of the car cause lots of air turbulence which push the exhaust dirt on the sit behind you as well as in to the folded fabric of the roof. Try to wipe it out after few drives, you wouldn't want anyone in a bright shirt to sit behind you, trust me, it's really dirty. So is the part inside of the top, above rare sit when you put the top us. The deflector keeps it away to some degree.
regards
Sebastian markymc Apr 6th, 2009, 02:03 AM Great replies and advice, but would you rather a deflector, or some other mini extra for the same money, stripes, ice upgrade, chrome add ons... No! Nothing else will beat it. Try to borrow one to see the difference it makes in order to convince yourself before making a commitment. Paul Apr 6th, 2009, 03:37 PM I think it's essential for the Convertible if you intend to go above about 20mph regularly. k m s Apr 6th, 2009, 10:03 PM Definitely worth it imo, try ebay or the classifieds here, you can sometimes find a bargain dunk71 Apr 9th, 2009, 05:37 PM Buy one, regularly on Ebay and in the classifieds in Modern Mini Mag. Normally about £100 second hand. markymc Apr 10th, 2009, 10:17 PM Awesome, thanks a lot, will keep my eye out for one now!! BU51 BEZ Apr 14th, 2009, 07:48 PM Hi we've just bought one of these off ebay £102 with bag mint condition and must say it's the best £100 i've spent just done 80 miles on motorway @ 70mph outside temp from 12*c to 15*c made a great difference, would say 60-65mph is best cruising speed on motorway.

Cheers 85NIXMIN Apr 25th, 2009, 02:42 AM I'm tossing up about whether to get one or not.. :D dalboyne Apr 25th, 2009, 04:43 AM It's a no-brainer! The deflector should be included, and not offered as an expensive option!
Bea in mind, the design has changed for the R57 - the 2 old and the new deflectors are not interchangeable! Porn_Star Apr 26th, 2009, 09:33 AM Still there:eek:

Actually your wrong the old deflectors do fit the r57! There is a post on here somewhere of a guy that has fitted it and it fits fine. PK5 May 23rd, 2009, 02:49 PM thanks for all the above conversations about the wind deflector, I am still some what reserved, perhaps as one of you have said try before buy maybe the key markymc May 25th, 2009, 12:11 AM Ah PK5, I was much like you, very unsure, enjoy the wind on a hot day, but they really do work, and look quite cool! If you or your girlfriend want the top down but need to keep your hair in place they are a Godsend (just keep your seat as low as possible) but don't buy direct, they aren't worth any more than £120 for practical use, really they should come as standard, or a pinup sheet like in some Mercs. Go for it though, you won't believe the difference at 60mph+ | |
