: Gp # 0444 RyanK May 5th, 2009, 06:40 PM Hi, quick q
Anyone have any information on this particular GP, #0444? Been looking at it however I have noticed that it has been up for sale for quite a while, possibly due to the car being modified a tad?
Im not to bothered about the modifications personally as I quite like it, I do wonder however if this car was previously owned by Nico the go-kart driver. I remember a similar car that was featured in Modern Mini sometime last year. Avoid??
Regards, Ryan  NeuroBeaker May 5th, 2009, 08:07 PM My general impression is that GP #0444 has been through the wars a bit... here's what I was able to turn up on a brief search of the forums:

444 - It has/had quite a bit more than that ;)
Understatement :D:D:D
A couple of people have looked at this one and walked away.
Yep, I was one of them!
I thought that you were but did not want to say so.
Be interesting to see where 444 ends up.
History:
I was thinking, it would be a good idea to create a list of the Works GP numbers that have been 'abused' by the media (including one Mr Mullett... )
The brand new EVO magazine has a group test to find the 'greatest ever Front Wheel Drive Performance car'. 15 cars including a GP. It came 5th overall, beaten by all old cars (Clio Williams, Pug GTi etc)
However, I noted that GP0013 (who said some numbers were being missed out..?) was being abused by the journos....
These cars wont have even been 'run in'.... and someone will end up being sold them...
So, heres the list....
Number Publication seen testing
0013.......................EVO
0028.......................Topgear
0444.......................Autocar
0719.......................EVO
0782.......................Modern Mini Mag
Got more to add?
Thurxton hosted an EVO active track day last week, first track day held there in years.
dont think they will be that popular - dangerous track.... clio driver and passenger left in an ambulance...
lots of nice Minis there. Including numner 0444 there for a Autocar group test...

So definitely make sure you view this car in person before buying it... a few have looked at it in person and thought it wasn't for them. It may need a little more care than some other examples of the GP breed out there.
Good luck!! :D
All the best,

As Neurobeaker shows this car has been talked about loads
Lots of people have looked and walked away
The Modern MINI Mag does has a full write up on the mods that have been done and who by
The lad who owned it was 17 Nico from Wales
Would I buy a GP with lots of mods done by others NO
Lots of others have walked away also
If you like the car and happy with the Mods and price (which you should be able to knock down armed will all this info) then go for it Snowie May 5th, 2009, 09:44 PM As others have said above - many have seen and many have walked away.
One person who viewed it had a doubt about some of the paperwork which did not seem to be fully in order.
Fore warned is forearmed - your decision at the end of the day and the dealer may well be willing to trade cost versus facts. GP1004 May 6th, 2009, 08:06 PM Hi, when this GP belonged to Nico as mentioned above I used to see it a lot around my hometown in North Wales. When I first saw it for sale (pistonheads) it had amongst other things Stoptech big brake kit and lots of Alta bits under the bonnet, furthermore, before I had my GP I saw 0444 at Oulton Park and I'm sure it had black mirror caps then??? humph May 6th, 2009, 09:27 PM Hi, when this GP belonged to Nico as mentioned above I used to see it a lot around my hometown in North Wales. Snap! Have seen it in my home town in North Wales, and despite numerous attempts never got a wave from Nico. And still haven't since he bought his current JCW. Have also seen it at Oulton albeit parked up in the pits area. RyanK May 6th, 2009, 10:12 PM Thanks everyone for the feedback, great to hear so much knowlege on the one car. I think I am going to steer clear from this one and try and pick up an untouched example, or possibly an R53 S.
The thought of the paperwork not being in order and the autocar testing puts me off. If I change my mind though I will hound Lloyd Coynes for the car at a cheaper price.
Cheers! :) Ant FR May 13th, 2009, 08:13 AM however is it better to buy something you kbnow what mods have been done to it or one that looks standard but was caned silly by a previous owner but puyt back to standard when sold on.
IE look at my old R53, was bought not long back as standard, but when i had it it was running GTT260+ spec, porsche brakes, coilovers. polybushed, new engine, carbon dash, mirrors, etc etc. It was also blatted around the ring rather hard too
but the buyer who recently purchsed does'nt know that.
Also theres quite a few GP's that get the ***** caned out of them non-stop at the ring. Every week i go there i guarantee i will see at least 5 or 6 Gp's and they all get caned. Once there was a group of 20 there all lapping all day long. | |
