Hi everyone,

Just trying to findout if many people have had the whole JCW exhaust system for r56 added to their stock Cooper S? I think it looks awesome, am finding it very hard to find one though!

Cheers

That is pretty good! Was that a eBay find or elsewhere? Did it make a difference to the car as well?

The factory JCW exhaust can be purchased from your dealer. The tuning kit exhaust looks better IMO, not sure if you can buy that without owning the kit though.

Either way the stock back box needs to be cut off and the replacement joined on using clamps.

there is no "whole jcw exhaust"... it's just the backbox that changes.

i have one on my S.

Thanks for that. Will changing the backbox give a few more bhp as well? Which part exactly is the backbox? Sorry am pretty useless at all this!

The backbox is the box at the back, with the twin pipes sticking out. :)

Power gains will be minimal if any. If you want extra power you need to replace the downpipe/cat as thats the most restrive part.

I guess that was pretty obvious really! Do you notice a difference in sound from it? it sounded a little deeper on the videos? Have you changed the downpipe/cat on your car?

Tried to purchase the JCW exhaust from 2 Mini dealers and they both said I had to buy the whole JCW engine upgrade as the exhaust wasn't available separately!!

Anyone know any differently?

Thanks

Has anyone got a picture of the Factory box with the joiner before it was fitted? and Where they have cut the existing pipe?

Seems strange its all one bit, had a look under the car today.

Dave.

Probably easier for them to assemble them as one piece.

Here's a pic of a stock MCS exhaust that has been cut off to fit the Works one. The cut is just after the middle silencer.

Dave.

this is NOT the Stage 1 JCW backbox - this is the Factory JCW backbox. you need to find a nice dealer.

nope, but it's easy to work out with some measurement and your eyes.

every dealer i have spoken to will fit the exaust seperately, if they are saying otherwise they are trying to rip you off!

No they aren't. When the part is ordered it requests a JCW stage 1 or factory Chassis number. If you dont have one the MINI Factory will cancel your order so no garages are ripping anyone off thats just rules they have to abide by. Some dealers will order one for you. Most commonly it is done by using the chassis off of one of thier own stock ie. Stage 1 or Factory JCW sitting on thier forecourt like my garage done for me.

How much did it cost from the dealer?

I need more popping, cracking and banging

My one was around £250 i think, and BMW fitted it for free because my car was having the chain tensioner done anyway so put it on whilse it was there which was nice of them.

Could go to Hayward and Scott in Essex. Recognised as one of the best exhaust fabricators in the country. Would hesitate to say 'the best' as once you get to a certian level (i.e. past the point of cheapo pipe-benders) then you're on to a winner anyway and most exhausts not made on a pipe bender will be better straight away.

There is a MINI exhaust shown on their Case Studies page. It states does not fit Cooper S... but as they make all the exhausts from scratch the reason is not that they won't do you one for a Cooper S... just that some customers have already ordered exhausts for other MINI's so now they can put those ones on their Case Study page.

Stainless exhausts manifolds headers (http://www.haywardandscott.com/case.asp)

I've been to their workshops and had them make a part for me before. Was plenty impressed with the quality of workmanship and like the way they smooth out all the joints in the exhausts they make so you end up with one continuious tube and not one with a load of joins in it.

I recently bought a full system from the factory JCW and had it put on my R56 S. Looks and sounds spot on and had no troubles getting it fitted at the dealer :)

the only bit that changes is the backbox on the JCW - possibly the manifold. but the front pipe, cat and everything else is the same.

Rec is right. Just the Manifold and Backbox are different. The centre pipe, downpipe etc is the same.

im guessing the extra power is to be had by changing the mani as opposed to the backbox? backbox being an asthetic change

rec
Aug 20th, 2009, 07:38 AM
the backbox is baffled differently, but the main performance limiter is the cat, from what i've heard.

Taralinzi
Aug 20th, 2009, 07:44 AM
but the cat is the same on the jcw as the MCS...... just wondering if its worthwhile chasing a genuine JCW downpipe if a sports cat would solve the iggest part of the issue

rec

the cat is the same, you just need to get the 400cpi cat removed (via Roland@GTT or ThinkMINI), or get a decat pipe.

Taralinzi

so on reflection a cat replacement (race cat) could be more advantagious than the manifold and back box on our MCS
