A colleague of mine has just bought a brand new One Graphite from JCT600 MINI in Bradford for nearly £2000 below list price. Its unregistered, got a Pepper pack and TLC, and is from stock, but this seems like an amazing discount. I thought dealers were typically only knocking about £500 pounds off list prices...does anyone know if there is some special promotion or any other dealers that are doing this?

When I ordered a new Dooper a few weeks ago I got told "we don't do discounts" and I think that was before I mentioned I had a car to scrap.

I think its all about the bartering and what you are prepared to pay. When I got my Cooper (Dooper) the other week. I had endless conversations with the dealers about getting some discounts for adding the chrome interior and the additional headlights.

Yea, i must admitt it was a lot of hassle. But, if your prepared to stand your ground and stick to your guns you can squeeze a fair few penny's out of them.

You are 100% correct. You do have to stand your ground.I went to price a new cooper s from my local dealer Bavarian in Belfast the other week and the didnt wanna give me discount.I bought a mini of them before and they basically implied nope sorry we dont do discount.I travelled a few miles to my next nearest dealer (David Prentice) and they offered me £500 off straight away.As i was talking to the sales rep the manager came along, and remembered me from buying a car in the past in a different dealership. The sales rep said, wen ever you are going to order the car,we will speak to him and get you more money off!So it proves you have to shop around and stand your ground :)

Exactly...if you know what you want and your willing to wait its only a matter of time before the better deal comes a long.

Yes because its a rip off GOV scheme as normal £1000 from the GOV scheme and £1000 from the Dealer which leaves no money to discount any more it pays to do some dealership hoping to get the best price. I have been selling cars in the UK and Canada for 14 yrs ranging from ford to bmw and landrover and managed a dealership in canada. The Dealers know how to play the system but its so much better when the punter knows it too. Sorry for the rant :)

Is that the Scrapage deal?

No, she's trading in a newish Astra.
What's more annoying is that I went in there a while ago asking about trading up to a Cooper from my One and, even though it would be my third car from there and they would "look after me", they werent knocking anything off at all!
They also told my colleagues mum that they'd do a similar deal for her if she wanted to trade in her Tigra....

Well i ahve to say my dealer offered me 2% without even asking & then when i said i had had 3 cars from them they said 4%, but they couldn't go any more. i saved a total of £1100 with the £500 from mini

I recently purchased an 07 Cooper S from JCT600 in Bradford - Forecourt price was £14.5k I paid £12.5k and part ex'd in a Smart Car, real value approx £7k max and then gave me £8k for it

It can be done, just got to find the right salesman and pay em

Blimey! That was good going!

I know what price I want to pay plus may be cheeky with asking for some goodies like an umbrella, tank of fuel!

I really hate haggling though but just got to think of the money I suppose!

Will let you know how I get on!
Any tips?

a full years road tax and a full tank off fuel, should be a definate must have, dont settle for less.

Make sure all services are done and none due within 2/3000 miles, if they are make sure you get an agreement that these will be done for you at their expense e.g. brake service etc.

Ensure tyres have atleast 5/6mm tread, their minimum is 3m, but it wont be long before they go bold, if less than 5mm demand replacements.

Make sure air con is working as it should be, if not get it re-gassed.

I also managed to get the clean & protect package they charge £300 for thrown in, pushing it a little, but worth a try.

The easiest way to go about it to get comparable Mini's off Autotrader etc and ask them for price match, they mey not match exactly, but will help to negotiate.

Thanks for that!
Well the update is that we bought it!

Managed to get £429 off screen price, 1 years road tax (only £35 but there you go!), full tank of diesel and free delivery from Borehamwood to Northampton and a full valet.

They are also going to polish out a few scuffs we found. The valeter polished out a particularly bad one whilst we were there with amazing results so hopefully the car will look pristine when it arrives in a couple of weeks!

Will post some photos as soon as it arrives and we officially become a 2 Mini family! :):):)

There are deals to be had. I have just got £1k off a new Works for delivery in September and a pretty good trade in price too. Don't be afraid to haggle, and remember there are other dealers out there.

I really liked a car i saw on the cherished website, was way over priced.
Cooper colchester had it sent to them so i could have a look at it and test drive it!
had a look and loved it! but there was no room to budge on the price we was told.

Car goes back to Chelmsford which is only 18miles away from colchester.

Chelmsford ring me up and offer me to come and have another look. see what they can do. Didnt go very hopeful.
Got there, an extra £200 for my car........ Nearly £1000 taken of the price and brake pads replaced and then all the work they had to do in the saftey check.

this car had everything i ever dreamed off!

It has now destroyed my dreams as im not even 2 weeks in and its needs a new gear box, power steering pump, a bmw worker got chewing gum on the seat!

No now getting all that sorted and hopefully a clutch thrown in for free if im lucky.....

Wanna say tho that Barry Dance has been great and helpfull from chelmsford but everyone else = pains in the arse!

Hi all!!

Looking at a Mini Clubman at the moment. Went to Soper Lincoln and spoke to Lawrence (sales, top chap). Then went to Sytner in Nottingham as just round the corner and spoke to Matthew (sales, top chap). They both said 'no discount, full stop, never.

I was browsing our intranet and it said 'staff deal - Sytner discounts' so I rang, they said 'you get corporate discount, £1000'.

I spoke to Sopers and they agreed to match!

Is this a good deal??

Thanks, Alex.

Got about £750 off the forecourt price of an 56 reg Cooper S with decent spec and chilli pack at a main dealer, and a full tank of petrol. Didn't think that was bad considering they allegedly fly out of the dealerships and hold their money well.
