Hi. I have an engine problem with my first generation mini one diesel (2004). When I start the engine from cold, the car sounds particularly rough until it has been driven for several minutes. I have had the car serviced at a non-mini garage and they are unable to detect any problems with their diagnostics machine (although they accept there is something wrong with the car). I am interested to know if others have encountered this problem and what it might be? Many thanks, Tony

Hi Tony, Any other clues? Any drop in power? How many miles has the car done.
My first check would be alternator bearings or drive belt pulley.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. The noise is getting worse and worse with every startup and I'm starting to get more than a little concerned. It's starting to sound like a tractor until it's been driven at higher revs (over or around 2,000 RPM) for a few minutes.
Has anyone any idea?
My Mini One D is a 2004 model, with 43,000 miles.

I'd go with R2d2 comments unless other info supplied. Alternator bearings make it way noisy!
