Hi All,
Has anyone experienced any problems with the gearbox in the 1.4 mini one? Ive just got back from the dealers, as 2nd gear was a bit ropey (sometimes jumps out of gear / wont go into gear). The have prescribed a new gearbox! Didnt expect that on a car that has done only 26000 miles! Thought it was a bit of an extreme move!
I thought it must have been a common problem on the 2nd gen mini one, seeing as how quick they made a decision to swap it, but havent found any threads on it here!
thanks... and nice forum by the way!

Its a very rare fault actually! Never heard of it before! You're just unlucky - dealers sometimes try to do more than is necessary in a quiet patch to make money out of bmw - or they could take the attitude that changing the whole part should mean the fault returns (sometimes this isn't necessary but if it kept happening you'd not buy another, and you'd spread bad word)

Thanks M.O.S - I think we have been unlucky, but I didnt expect the dealers to be so good - and the service guy said it as if it was something that happens every day!
Not that happy that the whole box is getting changed, however i'll be much happier once it doesnt grind into 2nd gear!
I could get used to service like this - We used to have a Seat Ibiza and the dealer network was shocking!

Why aren't you happy its been changed:puzzled::aargh: Think about it - you now have a gearbox that should last 26k longer! Its cost you nothing so... Mini dealers can be and are hit and miss... Who is your local dealer?

Im not unhappy that we are getting a new gearbox, the old one is obviously a duff - I guess I didnt expect it to fail thats all! Only had it 2 months as well. But your right, its best to get a new one for free rather than pay a fortune when the warranty runs out.
Dealer is Cooper Sunderland - Cant fault them at all!
