Hi all,
new Mini owner so appologies if already discussed.
We bought an 08 cooper S recently from BMW mini dealership. Not being experts on all the "bits" we liked the look of a nice red one. were told it had JCW body kit, no engine mods. deal went through and here i am looking at all the documents etc. i find a certificate....... JOHN COOPER WORKS tuning kit for mini cooper s certificate of authenticity. tuning kit no: R56 s 02207. installed on 13/1/09.
so what do we have?????????
thanks in advance.

You have a Cooper S with the 192 JCW add on Tuning Kit. Tell your insurance though as it will leave you with no hope in hell if you have an accident without telling them.

The JCW Tuning kit does not cost £3500.00, if that's really what they charged they are having a laugh! :D:D:D The prev gen kit had a cost around that so they may be getting confused but that one involved a lot more work.
I think it launched at around £1800 all in or something, but loads of places did it for much less. Average was between £1000-£1100, that's what mine cost and it was fairly soon after launch.
It is bad they didn't tell you it was fitted but you also should have spotted it... It should have JCW tips on the exhaust which looks different from stock, it sounds louder, has a little more power, has a JCW branded airbox and JCW Tuning Kit sticker/number on the engine.
The Tuning Kit should add to the value a little but also restricts the kind of buyer as the car is now modified. I would guess it may add £500 to the value?
As TURBS says make sure your insurance company know and insure it as an S with the Tuning Kit and declare all mods from the stock spec. If you don't you won't be covered. Search the forum/Google to find out what the JCW Tuning Kit included.

Insurance went up by £23.65!
I did spot the exhaust tips and boot badge but dealer said it was just cosmetic. Didn't lift the bonnet as car had loads of warranty and tend to trust a bmw/mini main dealer that vehicles are ok.
Having later found the certificate i saw the JCW tuning kit page online and yes, if you search the kit is listed at around £1800 fitted. He insists he charged the previous owner £3500 to fit it.
OK... i probably am a **** for not researching properly before buying but we [the wife and i] are well pleased with the car, really glad we found it. a shame i didn't find this forum a bit sooner!!!
