We dropped our Mini off at our local BMW dealer (Sytner, High Wycombe) for an oil service (@ £320) and while we knew there would be some other work to be done weren't exactly expecting a quote of £1,350.

However, they have a new guy in charge of the Mini bit and he said to the missus that it seemed like a lot of work for a car that age (54 plate) and he'd speak to Mini customer services about a reduction due to goodwill.

What they eventually agreed was that they'd look at the price for parts and the price for labour and THEY'D pay for the cheapest bit. So it the labour came to more than the part, we'd pay for labour. And if the part was more expensive then we'd pay for the part.

In the end, the final bill was just under £550. (Though in fairness that didn't include two new tyres which were on the original quote but we've bought separately.)

Oh, and they also left a voucher in the car for a day at a local spa.

So all in all, the bill was reduced by about half - a better result than it could have been.

£320 for an oil service?! Thats a right rip off! I'm sure that an inspection 1 would come to about £250 (from memory thats what it was before I showed I had tlc), and even bmws aren't that much! And they use more oil etc...

Nice dealer for a change ??...............they are ripping you off !!

take your 5 year old car somewhere else for a service, unless you've got plenty of money to burn.

I take my mini to Sytners in Leicester if I have to and everything seems to cost £500 + now my warranty has run out! ( New air con,new radiator etc)To avoid dealing with Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew again, can I get my car serviced elsewhere and have the computer altered to tell me when the next service intervals are due etc?

yes you can take it to an independant.............try and get a recommended one.

and the computer can be reset easily..............there are posts on the forum on how to do it.

the mini dealers are only interested in screwing warranty work out of BMW and then screwing you after the car is out of warranty...........sad but very true.
