: In the market for a 05 Cooper S - some questions

Hello MINI fanatics. I am in the market for a 05 MINI cooper S. But some of the necessities I need make it difficult to find the exact model and I have a few questions I was hoping you enthusiasts may help answer.

I am looking for a manual (6spd), navigation (is a must), heated seats (I think it is part of the cold weather package) and moonroof. I like the gray and want white stripes.

QUESTIONS
1) What is the convenience package? I notice there is something called a Comfort Access System on the mini website. Is that like the BMW where you do not need to take the keys out of your pocket to open the door and push start the engine (all without ever having to take the keys out of your pocket)? Is this only available on 2009 models, as I dont know if the 2005 have Comfort Acess System. I have not seen a lot of 05 MINI S with convenience package. Is there even a push button or all MINIs need the key to start the car?

2) Are there different types of moonroofs? I think I have seen two kinds. One is the big panoramic one (upgrade?) and the other is the split - one in the front and one in the back.

3) I noticed the ride is bumpy, but I am sure that is different for passengers versus when you are driving. Does sports package make a difference on the ride, handling and bumpiness?

4) The mini website indicates that there are auto headlights as part of the convenience package. Is this only 2009 models?

5) The mini website indicates cold weather package has heated power folding mirrors. Is that only 2009 models? Not sure if the 2005 had power folding mirrors.

Thanks!

Are the autoheadlights not available in 05?
Anyone have non sport package know what is the different about that vs sport package?

Im not familiar with the moonroof. However my 55plate MCS has all the options your wanting except the heated seats. Auto lights, nav etc.... All manual MCS cars are 6speed.

You just need to be very lucky to find all those options you want, as it does seem that you want all of them... so expect to look everywhere for a while. If you want to see what mine has which all other R53 models can have then look on my profile.

Why provide a general link instead of one which actually addresses the originating poster's question

MINI2 has an extensive FAQ section which includes one addressing differences between generations and models ...

:readme: What are first generation, second generation, r53, r56 etc? (http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?faq=new_faq_item#faq_mini_generations)

MINIAC, thanks so much. Either my eyes are playing tricks on me, but I do not really see a difference in the pre-facelift of the R53 (2002-2004) to facelift of the R53 (2005-2006).

The differences on the facelift are:

Different headlights (in my opinion more modern looking
Different tail lights - again more modern
3 piece dash instead of 5
More reliable power steering
slightly different centre console

Can't remember any more!

No so sure the facelift mini has better reliability in power steering. Or Mini Cooper Sport Convertible is only two weeks old. The power steering died on me whilst performing a parking manoeuvre (in as much as I couldn't steer at all - not just power assisted) after exactly one week. It went in to have the rack replaced and some re-coding and programming which took 5 days. We just got it back yesterday and it's happened again, whilst driving at speed this time. Total loss of power - managed to limp to a safe stopping position just as the steering went completely stiff. Awaiting recovery vehicle as we speak..........

Apologies - I really should read the whole thread before I post! I see now my mini is not the facelift version you refer to but the new model. Power steering has failed all the same though!
