I have a 51 Plate mini, due for a service. Its been flagged up for months now, but due to lack of free cash I have had to leave it.

Today I went to my local dealership to get it booked in, she asked is it a no1 service or no2 service (big one) you need? I said I have absolutely no idea, I thought they were able to work this out from the keyfob?

She then said 'hmmm I think you will be needing the no2 big service' as you have done quite a few miles. My car is now just over 50K.

I was quoted a price of £320. Now to me this seems bloody expensive, and I dont even know what is including in that price?! I also thought older mini's had a cheaper labour rate, I don't know if this is with that or not?

Can anyone give me some details on the type of service they are talking about, and is the price expensive?

Matt

That sounds expensive!

Scotthall have 55% off labour and 20% off OEM service parts including tyres and exhausts. Thats their 5+ scheme - yours qualifies. This isn't offered at all dealers though as its not compulsory BMW ;)

I'm not sure whether the BMW 4+ scheme extends over to mini.

Dick Lovett will price match a mini specialist.

What dealer are you using - it often pays to shop around as different dealers have different charges ;)

HI,can i add something please, i have a full serives history with my local bmw garage isit not a good idea to get a service at my local garage (isnt bmw just a normal garage)??
Obsully if he stamps the book it still counts as full service or do i need to go to bmw all the time?

You don't have to go to BMW, but it does help with resale, and as its only done rarely, it may be more effective financially to get BMW to do it - and most garages won't have seen that many minis so may or may not be sure...

I'd get a quote and see what the difference is - BMW are known to move when you throw a competing quote in. Reason being BMW pay mini cost under TLC - so what they buy the oil in at, and what pay the mechanic (e.g. £8p/h), so even if you knock their labour rate down they're better off - always worth asking! They may move as they'll make more servicing yours than they will a TLC car ;)

This dealership is Arden (was Cooper), Aylesford. I went to the dealership today, and I just didnt get a very good feeling about it.

I know that when it was owned by Cooper, they had the 5+ year reduction in labour costs etc. But now it has been taken over I guess this has changed, as this price appears very expensive. I will try Broadoak, Ashford tomorrow see what they say...

Checked out modnmini prices, they seem pretty good @ £245 for Inspection 2. But I phoned Broadoak Ashford this morning and they are doing it for £255 and so many pence. So Im going to the dealership, so then I can get my stamp :)
