G'day everyone, I have recently brought an 04 Mini Cooper from Melbourne, I live in Hobart and am very happy with the car it's blue, white roof, twin sunroofs, half leather and 84 000 km. I think I got the car for a good price $18 250, but it's only got the spare key I have been told by BMW in Hobart a new key will cost $ 560, can anyone else make a key?, thanks for any help Tony

You can buy a blank key off ebay then get it cut, the problem is coding the key to the car. The coding methods vary from model to model, I had a 2003 MCS and it had key coding instructions in the manual.

When I bought my mini it came with a full function key, a key that looked similar but didn't have the remote control capability and a credit card key. If it is just going to be a spare key you could also try buying either the key without the remote functions or a credit card key.

I picked up my new JCS on Christmas eve, I think I threw the key out with the Christmas wrapping paper the next morning - the key lasted less than 24 hours!

New key costs $630 from Rolfe in Canberra!
