When I purchased my 2009 MCS Conv last week, I am sure the guy said that you can open the roof with the key from outside the car?
I cannot read the manual, as i am waiting for it to be delivered.

press and hold the unlock button on your key...the sunroof slids back, let go and press again...then the whole roof comes down

And you have to keep pressing for the whole operation - and you have to not do anything to stop it working, like opening a door. So it sounds a nice idea but in practice I find it takes so long that I've reached the car before the sunroof is fully open, nevermind the full convertible bit. You'll impress your mates once with it as a trick and after that it isn't much use.
On the other hand, the ability to open the roof up to 20mph as you drive away is priceless and I use that all the time. But you have to drive with your finger on the open button all the time - I can't wait for the US-made auto-open electronic module to become available for R57s as that will make it a single switch press job. It's possible that will also make it a single key fob press job which would make the remote a bit more useful - though you'll still be left with the problem that if you open the door, the roof stops, so to use it you'll have to stand in front of your car like a complete ****** waiting for the roof to go fully down.

My dealer refused to program the key to allow that, stating that it was
1) illegal,
2) dangerous!
