Well, the new auto is miles ahead of the old CVT in the first gen, but yeah, stick (or manual as we call it here) is much better.

I just bought my MCS last week and still learning about them as well. I use to drive a Mazda truck with automatic transmission and now driving a manual again and loving it with the Mini. I think stick is so much fun to drive with a sports car like the mini Cooper S. IMHO, it would be weird to be driving an automatic transmission driving a sports car. Also, I was surprised to learn that these are 6 speeds, most people I know are surprised and impress by it. In regards to buying one just surf around the net and read their reviews then shoo around online and craiglist from your area. I recommend to buy one from a dealer so that you maybe able to extend their bumper to bumper warranty as well. Best of luck and once you start driving one of this you will want to drive it.

Parted with my Auto Merc for a Cooper and originally spec'd auto box but changed when I saw the fuel penalty. Mini box is beautiful - easy and fun. Dont hesitate - ditch the auto
