: Is the convertible fun? Seanyboy May 13th, 2010, 11:36 PM Hi all, I live on the island of Antigua in the caribbean.
I was just 1 click away from committing to buying a new MINI convertible today...but I'm having second thoughts after reading some comments.
Do you think I will regret it if I go for it? I have already had a hard-top MINI and enjoyed it very much, and people say that driving at speed with the roof down can get annoying and they driving with the roof up feels rubbish inside with the roof up.
Help me decide !
Cheers
Sean heli_guy May 14th, 2010, 01:20 PM Well, I have both, and find the convertible worth it, and usually my preferred drive when the weather is nice. I have done long drives on the highway with the top down, and although it is a little bit noisier, I really like the open feeling.
Personally, I think now that I have experienced it once, I will continue to have one! CharlieCroker May 14th, 2010, 02:58 PM i have been in a friends convertable it it is fun to be driven in so if you like it you prob wont regreat it Seanyboy May 14th, 2010, 03:07 PM Thanks for the replies guys, I think I'll go for it.
Just one last worry, I have read A LOT of threads about the roof getting stuck/not working.....but it seems all the problems are with the 04/05 model, has the roof problem been fixed in the newer generation?
Cheers,
Sean tcscb1963 May 18th, 2010, 04:33 PM Hell to the yeah, it's fun!!! If the noise and what not is an issue, with the top down, windows up and the windscreen installed there is very little noise!! But it's still best with top down, windows down and no windscreen!!! PK5 May 19th, 2010, 04:02 PM I have owned a new convertible for nearly a year now and I find it to be fun, i have also driven down the motorway with the roof down, fantastic fun.
See Pic automan May 19th, 2010, 06:32 PM When you first buy it you will think its the best thing ever, driving with the roof down because its such a novelty. Although it does have its flaws - back visibility is VERY restricted, you will hear more road noise from outside with roof up, drops of water here and there when it rains and fading fabric. Fabric will also smell inside if you don't wash the car often.
I find sitting in the back much more fun than sitting in the front! In a hot country like antigua I think it will be worth while buying as the weather there is HOT! Blumini06 May 20th, 2010, 03:39 AM I personally don't like the idea because I don't getting my hair get all messy and stuff. Either way, mini Cooper is fun to drive as it is. I love my Sunroof. PK5 May 21st, 2010, 04:00 PM well i havnt lost the novelty surlee May 29th, 2010, 04:39 PM Do many locals own convertibles? Usually seems like only the tourists are trying to take in the sun and the heat. Locals are usually windows up, a/c on full. Based on what I've seen while doing the tourist thing myself in Jeeps.
Also, it's not like you'll be spending 8 hours driving on an interstate with the constant wind and noise...might be a non issue. v21ky May 29th, 2010, 06:54 PM i love my mini cooper s convertible! had it since september and the novelty hasn't worn off at all. i love being out in the open, driving down motorways or country lanes is so much fun! definitely cools you down on hot days! i would 100% recommend it! :-D | |
