Decided to repaint my brakes from red to a more summery colour!

was thinking orange but decided on bright yellow

had to use a wire brush to try and scrape off the old paint and get rid of brakedust/dirt etc

While i had each wheel off i gave the inside of the alloy a good clean as it was completely black with brakedust!

got the car jacked up and gave it its first coat

let it dry in and went over it again and put the wheel back on

Then jacked up the back and got the back done

let it dry in then put all the wheels back on and this is the end result

Great I really like the yellow!! :D

What paint did you use?
How long did it take?
Did you have to remove the calipers?
Did you clean them with anything special?

I think I'm gonna do mine!!!!!!! :D

Thanks for the positive feedback! i didn't use the mini jack, it looked very unstable! just used my friends one from his clio which seemed alot more secure.

I used yellow Hammerite metal to rust paint (used this because i used the same stuff for my red which had stayed on for 1 and a half years and still looked bright!) i think this stuff is available from halfords, i just used one of my friends paint as he had the colour i wanted.

being honest it took from about half 9-10 am to about 4pm because i gave each calliper 2-3 coats and had to give time to dry and also it took a while to get the brake dust off the alloys

no i didnt remove the calliper just used a brush and paint and gave it a even coat for a smooth look (be careful of drips etc as it can give the brakes a cheap look once dried!)

well i used meguiars gold car shampoo to wash the calliper to get as much dirt off as possible but i think fairy liquid and the like would suffice if you dont have proper car washing stuff, then used the wire brush (about £2 from halfords) to scrape off the red layers of paint from what i previously had (as you can see the red looks faded in the picture, that was after it had been scraped) then just start painting, even though you may not have painted ones yet still use the brush to get rid of dirt, brake dust etc, i would suggest use the brush, wash it then brush again.

hope you find this helpful! if you need any other information then just ask. post up pics when you get yours done!

post up a picture of yours scounger?

sorry for the big rant there!

all the best,
Scott

P.S. if doing it do it in a good day so it drys in faster or you'll be there all day. and a word of warning if you do it on a really nice day you'll get sunburnt like it did!

*WARNING*

when your using the brush do NOT be too vigorous when brushing as your car is up on a jack and is very possible it could fall off it if your doing it too hard.

like scounger said, i'd get a different jack than the mini one to use.

if your car falls off the jack you may be looking at new disks, maybe body work and suspension so be very careful

+1 for the trolly jack. very useful! but not 100% necessary, i had my car on a bottle jack on the passenger side and trolly on the other when doin my coilovers and it was fine.

hmmmm that yellow certainly is bright!! lol

get some black or silver paint hammerite will do and paint the centre of the disc and the lip on the edge being very carefull not to get any on the pad area of the disc
itl make a huge difference makes it look like youve got new discs on instead of old ones with rusty bits it made a huge difference on mine

thanks for the pics, I might just do the same for the summer...

maybe I'll see how it goes in photoshop first :)

not a problem, yeah might as well do it, really changes the look of your car and it isn't exactly expensive.. think the paints about £20 and the wire brush is £1.99 and dont know about paint brushes but you need a good warm day and about .. 4-6 hours of free time.. lol
