Hi all,
I'm fairly new to this so please excuse me if I've posted this in the wrong area.
Having read a few of the posts on here I thought some of you may find it interesting to know that the illusive John Cooper Works emblems, i.e the ones that fit on the side scuttles / indicator repeaters, can still be purchased from BMW! However, saying this, I also thought it necessary to let you all know how a customer with BMW/MINI UK can be constantly told they are in the wrong and that the parts don't exist, even if they do! Confused, you will be LOL. So if nothing else, but for a laugh, here is a brief synopsis of my experience with Scotthall BMW/MINI in Hampshire.
Having searched for these emblems for a few months prior I eventually found the part number on this site, which is testament to how helpful this site really is, thank you all! So armed with the relevant information I contacted Scotthall BMW, gave them the part number and asked them to order me some. Easy you might think.....
1. When providing the part number for the JCW side scuttle emblems they initially existed.
2. I then had to provide proof of JCW conversion before being allowed to purchase them
3. I was then to be told the parts didn't exist?
4. Not to be defeated, I even managed to locate and send them two photos of old Mini brochures with the emblems fitted, but they were still insistent that they didn't exist!
5. I then returned to this site to discover a dealer in Liverpool might be able to help. The parts department not only found them on the BMW system but also ordered them for me direct from Germany, all within 5 minutes too! The guy in the parts department (Chris) also informed me the emblems were on the original R50 Cooper cars so aren't that common.
6. After the arrival of the parts and fitting them to my car, I took the car to Scotthall BMW to proudly show them the emblems did exist and that they weren't Scotch Mist :D
7. The dealership manager promised to look into it as it really wasn't good enough.......
8. A short while after, I received an email from Scotthall informing me that they, and now MINI UK, emphatically denied any existence of this part and informed me I had purchased after market, non BMW parts!
9. Even after offering to show them a BMW invoice and the BMW packaging the emblems arrived in, according to all those involved they still didn't exist?
I think the moral of this story is if you need to seek advice, find parts for a Minis, and be treated as you would expect to be treated, then use mini2.com! I would strongly recommend anyone not to bother with Scotthall BMW in Hampshire, they clearly don't know what they are doing. Imagine if your Mini were to develop a fault that they've not hear about before, it could end up being a very expensive experience!
I would be interested to hear if anyone has had any similar ridiculous experiences with BMW/MINI UK?
This is an excellent site!
Kind regards
Nick
