Well.... when I had my first MINI (A Cooper S lookalike based on a One!), I always wanted the JCW seats. However, being 19, and just spending nearly £20k buying and modding my MINI, there wasn't many pennies left =(
Many cars have come and gone, including a Golf GTI, 3 series sport, M3, all had really nice supportive seats which also looked nice... then I purchased my R56 Cooper S. IMO, the basic sport seats are crap. I get back ache on long journeys and there is no support for my shoulders at all! Again, the JCW seats are very tempting but for £2500!!! Get real! I've sat in them and yes, they are lovely and very supportive but I cannot bring myself to spend that on seats!
Anyway, after have a trawl on the internet, researching other brands and options, I decided to look on ebay for a set of Cobra seats. From the reviews I found, they seemed to be very comfortable, supportive and a reasonable price. And so I took the plunge, I won a pair of Cobra Sidewinder seats on ebay for £80. Yes, they are wrapped in a horrible fabric more suited to a Saxo or Corsa, but then again they required a retrim anyway, and I just happened to have some leather from another project that didn't go that well. I've decided to go for black and grey (basically like they are now but in leather!)
So, Wednesday 11th August, my seats arrived and I was absolutely delighted. They are very very comfy and much more supportive that the standard crap I have in the car.
Today I managed to take the seat apart (Very easy job) and took the cover off the top. I started to take the stitches out so I had templates for the new material it was going to be replaced with. So far so good, I've uploaded some pics so far. Sorry for blabbing on. More pics to follow!
