: TLC Package

This is my first post so apologies if this has been covered already.

Is it just me or is the TLC package a right con?
My wife and I bought our MINI One (new model) brand new in 2007 and purchased the TLC package. The car is driven very gently and has just covered 40,000.
In November 2010 the car indicated a maintenance service so we booked it in under TLC. The dealer said that they had done the routine maintenance but had also noticed that the rear pads were approaching replacement. They said that they were not down to minimum yet but would be before the car indicated that it needed service again. They wanted £168 just to change the rear pads. We declined to incur that sort of cost for parts that were not worn out and the dealer then refused to re-set the dashboard service indicators because we had not had the additional work done by them. Remember this is to change parts that are not actually worn out but which they thought would wear out before the next visit to the workshop.
I have today changed the rear brake pads (original BMW parts at a cost of £50). The rear pads are worn but still a long way from needing replacement. The job took me about 20 minutes.
I am very disappointed with the dealership. the dashboard is now indicating that the car needs an oil service, I intend to take it in under the TLC package and see if the dash is properly re-set when this is done.
We also own a new Mazda, the services are at set intervals and are totally predictable. The MINI self diagnosing approach is enough to put me off buying another one.

It's a great car but it's a shame about the dealers.

Mini dealers are obliged to reset your 'service' light if they carry out a service on your vehicle, you can reset the brake pad wear light yourself if you decide to change your own brakes and save on dealer cost, to do this go to the following link to step by step instructions:

Hope this helps.

That is ridiculous. Call MINI customer services and complain about that dealer!

Hi
I'm new on this site so hope I've posted in the correct place!

I have just become the owner of a lovely Mini Cooper s 09 plate, which I love!

This evening I have gone through the paperwork and the tlc issue is puzzling me. The car was sold with tlc until feb 2014 which would match with its age.

However I've checked in the service book and it appears to have had one service so far( it is low mileage...27,000). I thought it was meant to be serviced before I purchased it but in the book the last service was July 2010 at 18,000 miles but no other service is apparent.

surely this isn't right but I want to be sure before I contact the dealer tomorrow.

I thought it was meant to be serviced before I purchased it but in the book the last service was July 2010....

It's quite likely that the service booklet wasn't stamped after a service - since the key contains all the servicing record of the car, at least at Mini dealers, that is really the 'master' record and the booklet is just a poor copy of it. If the car isn't showing a service is needed on the dashboard, then one was done but not stamped, as I think the maximum between services is 24 months even for very low mileage cars.

Thank you....i will check with the dealer .

If that is the case, is it worth me asking for the stamps to be put in the book, or is that unnecessary?

Furthermore, if it has just been serviced and I anticipate doing low mileage, will I get another service in before the tlc runs out at the end of feb 2014? I had mistakenly thought the tlc covered annual services.

TLC provides for the services the car says it needs and for a low mileage car, that may be only one every two years. Wanting more does not change the terms of the TLC!
