Is it legal to run without a catalytic converter in the UK?

Tuning options for a pre-facelift Cooper are limited by the weak Midlands gearbox.

Not sure about the Cooper but on the S a decat pipe lost power... plus it made it sounds really chav / tinny / ****....

MINIAC ^ yes basically - track use only I believe.

On the insurance front - have you checked the comparison between tuned Cooper vs. stock S ? May be worth checking as my tuned S was more expensive than the stock £30k 135i coupe...

How much more does an S cost on insurance really ?? Couple of hundred £'s at the most but you have spent more than that on mods for your cooper anyhow... if you want a fast 1st gen mini it has to be the S really...
