: Dents in my R56 Roof...common issue?

Hi

I have a 56 plate R56 MCS (a very early R56) fitted with a factory sunroof. I gave it a super valet yesterday and have noticed that down the driver's side of the roof there are about 7-8 small dents all in a straight line. There is no paint damage and I can think of no reason for their presence. There are so many it looks almost like a ripple effect.

The car did have a new sunroof fitted under warranty but I cant see how they'd dent the roof like this.

The car is black and i've heard that black minis have issues with the heat from the sun being absorbed and causing the roof to warp/ dent.

The car has a few car door dents etc that ill be wanting to have taken out soon. Can the roof lining be removed from the inside to allow access to the dents? Can see this being quite expensive!!

Im guessing due to the cars age BMW will be unwilling to help?

Any thoughts/suggestions much appreciated!!

a common problem. I have a few on mine, but it not easy to spot. I was told that the structure that holds the roof, at a few of those points, may pull the roof inwards due to heat. I would assume it's the rivet or fastening points.

To spot this you have to have high elevation looking at the roof, and u need some sort of reflections with lines to see it. It appears on Black bcos of the high gloss whereas for whites, it's not so reflective thus u might not be able to see it so clearly.

I had the same on my R50, although mine is a white roof. The dents were on both sides of the roof running all the way down. They can be removed. I believe the head lining drops down for easy access.

Hat's off to the guy who spent 8 hrs removing mine....It cost me a small fortune, but well worth it. There's nothing worse than parking dents.....

Thanks for the replies guys, its not drastic tbh but I like my car to be dent free :)

Went to a bodyshop and they seem to think it needs to be filled and painted due to the amount of dents and the roof lining needing to come out, think ill sort out the car door dinks first and see how bothered I am about it in a while!

Now then

I noticed a few, almost perfect round dents in the roof of our car last April. I could fathom no reasonable explanation for their appearance so forgot about them, until everytime I wash the 'blinkin' thing :D

Not the end of the world though eh

I've noticed about 6No. above drivers door on my black R56 roof, having them taken out tomorrow, but if this is a common problem, presumably they will re-appear? :(
