My 2005 Cooper S JCW has just been to have a new rocker gasket and sump gasket, since then I have noticed a rattle from under the bonnet that wasn't present before. I can't see anything obvious, except for what appears to a hole for a bolt, without a bolt in it. I'm no mechanic so before I go back to the dealer I was wondering if an MCS or MCS JCW owner could have a quick look at their engine to make sure i'm not just being paranoid, or give me something definitive to question them about. I have included some pics below to help locate what i'm talking about. :confused:

looking at the picture it just looks like a flange to me and no bolt required, but you will need to get it confirmed by someone on the site with a cooper S.

but you will need to trace the rattle in case it causes problems

Having just replaced that engine mount and jacked up the engine to fit a pullet this weekend, I'm pretty sure there are 2 or 3 such threaded holes on the side of the block there so I don't think you're missing anything.
The engine is also used in the Chrysler Neon, it might be something for mounting in that fitment.

Any chance that could be where you bolt on a hanger bracket so the engine can be lifted out? There should be at least 2. The other one should be at the other end of the engine. My other car is a Honda and it has those for that purpose.

If I remember this evening and if its not raining outside I shall go have a look at mine for you Sten to see if there is a bolt or anything there :)

I have an 2003 R53 JCW and should be the same.
