Hi Guys
Have had the dreaded cable breaking issue on wife's convertible (2004 Cooper). That is sunroof section only unlatching / opening on one side.
There is an excellent set of 4 'how to repair' videos on YouTube by a user called 'tullid'.

What a brilliant tool the internet is! I hope that I can now tackle a repair with some confidence - looks like a few hours work, but at a quote of £1,800.00 from Mini, I'm a lot cheaper that the dealers!
