Forgot to ask this... When my S went in for the s/w upgrade and rattle fixing, it acquired a Jack as well! I have the flat boot floor and went to lift it at the weekend and found this big black bag strapped in with a picture of the Jack on it!

its going back for the rattle finally fixing so will ask but didnt know if they forgot intially or are adding them when cars some in - does everyone have a jack with theirs? Didn't understand as its run flats anyway...

Mine came with a jack. Seems kinda pointless without a spare wheel though.

Weren't jacks missing from a bunch of the early cars?

I seem to recall there was a supply issue, and that cars were handed over to customers without them, on the promise that the jack was "to follow"?

Pretty sure that was the situation, unless I dreamed it? :o :D

Where do you keep your jack? Mines in the side behind the removeable door thingy....woudn't like to put it anywhere near the battery for fear of shorting or damaging the battery...

The first batch didn't have jacks. I got my Countryman in November and don't have a jack yet - it hasn't been back to the garage - I assume they don't recall but just supply when you're in for something else.

I got mine early December and it had a jack in a black bag under the flat loading floor like Hoover described

I just bought my MIni 2nd hand, its a 60 plate so presumably one of the first? I dont have a jack and the original owner bought it from new and said he never had one. Presumably this could be the reason why, if there was a supply issue?

May have to phone Mini tomorrow and ask.

I'd say so, assuming my original post above stands correct. Speak to your dealer... maybe better still, if different, speak to the dealer who sold your car to the original owner. I reckon you're probably owed a jack? :)

Since I have winter and summer wheels the jack is pretty important for me and for most of us who live in the sensible parts of Europe where winter tyres are manditory.

IIRC, your MINI dealer can look up your VIN to see if you are owed a jack. Early production suffered from jack availability issues. If you have acquired a CM (with missing jack) from a personal sale, and the VIN is post-shortage, you may have a very hard time getting one from the dealer.

Remember, jacks are not just for flat tires. Several times in the last 48 years, I have had to use a jack to:

1. remount a wobbly wire wheel on a '69 MGBGT that had not had its knock-off cap securely fixed;
2. secure a "sudden" dangling exhaust system on a '74 Spitfire 1500;
3. remove debris (rocks, sticks, plastic bags, etc.) from the wheel wells and under-carriage picked-up while driving various vehicles on our very "interesting" roads in New England.
