Just a quick one. My Mini has the newHK Hi-Fi - it's great. I want to swop for a better spec'd Mini but it does not have the HK system. Can the 'ordinary' Radio/Cd etc be upgraded?- The car is 2010 build. Thanks

I don't believe the standard Boost system can be replaced with the H+K system. There is an Alpine HiFi upgrade (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=MF72&mospid=49645&btnr=65_1942&hg=65&fg=95). I found a thread (http://www.mini2.com/forum/second-generation-interior-ice/179095-retrofit-r56-harmon-kardon-hifi.html) where by a member who replaced the speakers in the HiFi system with H+K.

I think it can but it's not an official kit and would be a right royal pain in the rear.

The amp on it's own is over 700inc vat I think.

An amp and new speakers should be all you need. The amp needs to have speaker level inputs to keep things simple. Front speakers can be 6.5" components and the rears 6x9 co-axials. If the car is a pre-facelift model it is best to swap the front and rear channels as the rears have the bass filtered out. After the face lift (also known as LCI) there is plenty of bass for all channels, in fact on my car I need the bass turned down and I like bass! If you can afford it the front speakers can be 4" midrange with tweeter and 6.5" mid-bass/low range speaker.

I thought the HK system used a new wiring loom with individual lines to each speaker from the amp, making sure the crossover and frequencies were right for each one?

sorry to take so long but very useful, thanks. Guess the answer is Yes but it's a pain and expensive.
