Hi,

Wondering if anyone has any ideas on my speaker intermittently not working/working.

I have a 05 plate Mini Cooper S with the upgraded Harman Kardon sound-system & the last 4-5 months the speaker in the passenger door intermittently either stopped altogether or would produce a distortion sound. I stopped working completely around 3 weeks ago, but suddenly came back to life last weekend when i was cleaning it. (i just had the radio on pumping out a bit!) Id taken it to my local audio place for them to have a look when it stopped working altogether & within 2 minutes they'd decided my speaker had blown so i needed to replace it.

Iv since pulled my doorcard off completely & had a look at the speaker & the immediate wiring & hey presto it worked perfectly! Drove around for a few hours with the doorcard off & it was fine, put the doorcard back on & it's stopped again or is intermittently giving me this horrible distortion sound.

Does anyone have any ideas?? It's just this one speaker & im reluctant to take it to my local BMW garage as they've quoted me a silly price to have a look & im obviously wary of taking it back to the audio garage.

Probably a bad connection. The door card could be putting pressure on some wiring or the door card could be a small fishes of the red colour as Poirot would say. Blown speakers don't work intermittently in my experience once they are blown thats that.
