Hi there, newbie here, although I have hovered in the background as a guest on many occasions.

Am finally in a position to purchase a Mini Cooper and have found a very tidy 04/54 Cooper but have just one question. There is a JCW badge on the boot and JCW rocker cover/plate under the bonnet. Is this a standard 115bhp model or is it slightly tuned?

That'll be the JCW Sound Kit, which includes:

Air Intake with Sound Tube
Cat-back Exhaust
ECU Remap
Injection Tube Cover
Rear Badge

Performance increase is negligible... it's all about the sound (as the name implies). :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I know it is infuriating when a noob pops up and asks a question instead of hitting up the search bar, but I honestly did and was getting too confused!
Have test driven it and didn't think it was any different to the Cooper hire cars I delivered in my last job but did note the improved exhaust note. It has a very low miles and is in mint condition, so will be putting a deposit on it tomorrow :)

I guess at 54 plate it should be the updated version of the car...? Might be wrong but thats when they changed the gearbox.

Obviously youve checked insurance as itll go drastically up (or it would if it was me) if its a JCW tuned engine.

Also wouldnt that be a cooper s not a cooper? Get a cooper s if you can, most people with coopers want cooper s'

Got an insurance quote on it for £500 fully comp all bells and whistles, both me and my girlfriend with it parked on the road overnight, more than happy with that. Cooper S insurance quotes were coming back at £1800, so one of those can wait.
As it is (mostly) the girlfriend's car I think a Cooper will be more than enough. In the meantime, I have found out that I can insure 3.2 V6 Audi's cheaper than my Pug 307 diesel estate, so a 250bhp Quattro will be keeping me happy :)
