I was wondering what type of 13" speaker to purchase to replace the front 2 speakers. Only asking because the mini has separate tweeters so should i purchase component speakers and use the cable from the tweeter to feed the new tweeter or is there another type of speaker needed?

You will need a spacer whatever size of speaker you use so you may as well go to 6.5" speakers. Components would be best. The wires to the OEM low range speaker is unfiltered so connect these as input to your crossover. Then connect the outputs of the crossover directly to the appropriate speakers.

thanks for the reply mate
I should of said before, i do have the fittings i bought from ebay to fit 13" speakers, I am actually watching a pair of Alpine sxe 13" component speakers, say if I install them and use the crossover supplied, what happens to the wire that goes to the OEM tweeter?
Sorry for sounding a bit dim, my expertise lie elsewhere but are strongly progressing with the car world ;)
Thanks!

Disconnect the existing wires to the OEM tweeter you won't need them. Best place for the crossover is simply to screw/bolt next to the 13cm speaker. Old low range speaker wires as input to the crossover. The crossover mid-bass output wires to new 13cm speaker and crossover tweeter output wires to new tweeters.

thank you very much for that but sadly I have hit a big problem after installing my Alpine rear speakers.
Rather than post it here, I will start a new thread
