I removed my front door panel today to do some fault finding on my front speakers as only the tweeters were working. I found they had a bit of corrosion on the terminals and the speakers were a complete write off :(

Also I found the wire harness to be damp but can't quite put my finger on where the water came in from.

Its a mk1 2003 cooper

Inside the door cavity will get damp.
Water runs down the glass and some get's behind
the weather strip and drips inside the door cavity.
Clean the rusty speaker terminals up with 'wet & dry'
and smear a thin coat of vaseline on the terminals to reduce the chance
of it happening again.

Cheers mate

Thats ok then, Im goina to get a new pair of alpine component speakers to fit the front so thats roughly what I was going to do. My door cards are staying off for a while so i can dry them out a bit before we carry on with the work on the doors. Iv'e also got new door straps to install so will do them while the speaker is out.

If its something that happens thats fine, thought i might of needed something new

Cheers

...the only thing that will solve the problem permanently is
plenty of hot dry weather!:D
One a serious note, some speakers come with a water deflector.
This shields the back of the speaker from damp, if your speakers
come with one, use it!

Nice one!

Ive installed some Alpine SXE component speakers in replacement today and used some special waterproof binding tape that sticks to itself and harden making the original terminal plug safe from any future water leaks and some vaseline.

Thats the front doors sorted with new door straps and new speakers :) Its so nice to have a door that doesnt come flying back at you when its opened lol

Thanks again!
