: Tow bar??? Where?

Trying to source a Towbar for the countryman cooper s with twin exhaust, but having no success.

I see pfjones list one, but it says not for cars with bike prep. Can't see why bike prep mount would affect the fitment of a tow bar??

Witter say, currently they don't do one.

Any ideas in UK.

Thanks

Got tow bar sorted, ordered a Westfalia for £208 and fitted it myself.

Saved a fortune as BMW want £670 to supply a Towbar plus labour charge to fit.

HERE'S (http://www.countrymanconnection.com/Countryman_Connection/Trailer_Hitch.html) an interesting one available in the US. Rated at 150# tongue-weight and 1500# load weight. Hmmmm...

That looks horrendous!!!!! Sorry.

Also the towing capacity looks like it is 1000lb and not 1500lb.

Hi Peter, did you manage to get a tow bar that still allowed you to keep the Mini bike prep and if you don't mind me asking, where did you get it from?

Yes, 1000# -- I stand corrected!!!

Aesthetics aside, the issues I would have with this arrangement would be:
1. feeling comfortable that the bike rack connection points were also engineered for lateral forces as well as the (intended) vertical forces;
2. having to bother with the license plate relocation (depending on the item being pulled).

HERE'S (http://www.minidomore.com/) a US hitch I have used on my '04 MCS JCW that has worked out brilliantly. It takes a bit more to install, but the results were worth it! I see Mini Do More now have an application for the CM, as well.

You have to remove the bike carrier/prep, as the tow bar fits were the bike prep is!!

I got my tow bar from pfjones, but you can get it from any Westfalia dealer.

£208

My countryman was presided you just need an adaptor for the EU style plug . £7.

Plus the cost of my labour to fit. And the ball is removable, so nobody knows you have a tow bar when not in use.

Thanks for the reply Peter. That's a shame about the bike prep removal, I have the Mini bike rack, so won't be going for a tow bar now, unless someone comes out with one that allows the bike prep. :(

There is no reason why the major Towbar makers can't make a Towbar that will also accept the bike carrier. The Towbar just needs modifying to accept the two large bolts that are accessed by removing the plastic covers.

But I doubt they will make one that will double as a Towbar and a bike carrier. They just want more money out of you.

The same way Mini want £670 for a Towbar. Mine cost £208.

I read somewhere that if you order the tow-bar at the same time as a new car, you also get uprated rear springs.
