Sat nav display stopped working and it gave a message 'DVD read error'.
This means there are no other functions available - radio etc.
Took it to BMW-Mini, charged £55 to investigate (car is 3years 8 months old).
The result was you need a replacement DVD drive.
New drive unit £85
Labour £230!!!!
Does anyone know how this unit is changed?

Does it really kill all other functions? Does the drive work with a music compilation DVD? (I'm guessing not). Can you remove and re-insert the DVD?

Must admit that the drive does a lot of accessing (or so it seems) - you can hear it chuntering away a lot. Makes me wonder whether it's worth removing the DVD when you're not using the Nav, like on the daily commute - still I guess then you lose the TMC.

I have had some feed back from the dealer.
Mini will pay for the parts and 30% of the labour.

Price for the repair now £155

could you tell how to get the 30% off the labour cost?

You'll generally get 'goodwill' if you're just out of warranty and have a full service record. I had a expensive aircon repair for a Merc that was a year out of warranty. Total bill was around 1700 (engine out and everything) and I paid just over 200. If you ask you can often get, if you don't ask...
