: £600 to spend

After debating whether to try and find a GP/Works for ages I've decided to spend some of the money I was going to use on a deposit on tuning my current 56 reg R53 Cooper S.

With £600 to spend I was thinking of going for either the 1320 Engine package 2 (17% pulley, plugs, belt) for £330. Plus the optimized bypass valve (worth doing??) for £80 on top.

What else should i be looking for spend my money on after this? Is it worth doing a decat at the same time? Or am i better off adding a CAI as well?

Any assistance or alternative suggestions are very welcome :)

Thanks in advance

Definately ring up 1320 & speak to Paul or Thomas, they'll be able to sort something out for you;).

Have a 'health check' done while you're there too, well worth the money to make sure you've got a good engine before you start modding it

Good, sound advice from the guys, recommended service too .

Please don't de-cat it; the cat's there for a really good reason.

The GT Tuning intake was one of the most effective modifications I did on my R53, even though it was still on the standard pulley; much nicer noises and a very noticeable increase in torque.

For CAI there's nothing better than the Dave F hybrid, a closed filter so doesn't suffer performance loss from excess heat build up in the engine bay:wink:.

Also been proven to give up to 5 bhp on numerous dynos:)

Thanks for the advice so far guys. So would i see much further improvement in power by changing the manifold/exhaust as well? I know it might cost a few hundred pounds more to do this but it would be something i'd be looking at down the line anyway.

BTW I've booked into 1320 on the 2nd August for the performance pack and bypass valve at the moment :)

From next year in the UK if there is no CAT on the car and it had one when made it will fail the MOT regardless of passing the pollution test..

Pleased to hear it :) I don't want to breath that stuff in and I don't see why anyone else should have to either!

You've never been stuck behind/beside a bus/taxi/truck/van in a traffic jam then?? :hmph:

This is not a sound argument for screwing up the emission control on your own car. Besides, every recent taxi or van is going to have a catalytic converter, while buses and lorries have their own current emission standards to reach.
