I bought a new mini last April, Cooper S, dealer says I cannot retract lateral mirrors are I would have had to buy an optional for that, but I thought I could retract them manually. Now the dealer even says I cannot do anything, I cannot just add-on such optional, so I now have a mini without retractable mirrors....... :(

You can manually retract the mirrors on every Mini, but you need to remember that they rotate, so it helps if you use two hands to turn them, not just pressing the end with one hand.

Changing the mirrors for power-fold ones sounds like an expensive option - they are different mirrors, plus you would need extra wirings and switches. Lots of money.
