I am looking at ordering a 2012 mini S hardtop, however I am faced with the problem of whether or not to buy the bluetooth package in case it's too risky to install a superior sounding aftermarket stereo with it's own bluetooth for about 1/2 the cost (given that parts of the stereo are up in the speedometer). I am having a very hard time finding information regarding this issue in regard to minis with the most recent dashboard layout.
Any suggestions, or links, that might help me determine the feasibility of having a aftermarket stereo installed? Would be a extra bonus if it integrates with the wheel located stereo controls.
Local state laws are going the way of prohibiting handheld cellphone use while driving, so I probably need to get bluetooth functionality one way or another. I just hate to pay 500 to bmw for it and then rip it out a year later to install a different stereo. Conversely, I would hate to not have it and find out it's not going to be possible to get a better stereo.
Thanks
-Tom
