Hi all,

Just bought a 2004 cooper s with 90,000 on the clock. I had it checked out and have been told the rear load sensing valve has had it... Tried to find one online with now joy. Anyone got any ideas where I can get one and how much I'm looking at?

Cheers

Brad

What do you mean by a load sensing valve

Apparently there is a little box underneath the car near the back. It has break pipes going in and out of it. It's connected to the rear axle and adjusts the amount of brake fluid to the rear brakes depending on the load in the car?

I have been told I need to replace it, but can't even find the part.

This sounds all confused.

Older FWD cars had a load sensing valve like this, to limit the rear brake pressure when the rear wheels were lightly loaded, but surely that is unnecessary with ABS which does the same thing much better.

I can't find any fitting in the brake lines of your car, nevermind a valve: R53 Brakes (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=RE32&mospid=48020&hg=34&fg=20)

So I wonder if you are being told a porky.

But does your car have Xenon lights? If so, there is an electrical-only sensor in the rear suspension (and another in the front) to detect the car's attitude and alter the headlamp alignment to suit. Is that what they are talking about?

I didn't think it made sense...:puzzled: I knew you got them on older cars. My mini has got Xenon lights, so im gueesing that's what he has seem under the car. He said it was a small box under the car that looked like it should have has a control arm attached to the rear axle and it has snapped off. Does that make more sense?

Thanks you have been a great help.

If so, it's number 6 in this diagram and the list price is about £75, so it's not the end of the world.

That's great, thanks again. The arm has snapped off at the sensor tho, so guessing I will need to a new sensor too. Lights are still self adjusting tho, must be high cos people keep flflashing.
