: How to remove fish smell from carpets

Whilst shopping the other day I had some fish juices leak from the shopping bag onto the carpet in the boot/trunk and the smell is appalling. I'm finding it very hard to get rid of it using washing up liquid, water and 'elbow grease' - any tips anyone?

Do you have an r56?

A vax may be a good bet...

Yes, an R56 MCS. Hmm, don't have a Vax but can probably get hold of something similar.... or maybe rent an industrial one from a tool-hire place...

You could hire an ozone generator/purifier. Simply close it in the boot/trunk leave it going for an hour then turn off and vent the car without breathing the ozone and the smell should be gone.

Solved it: Where I could identify where the spill had been I used Oust spray to get rid of it, by spraying LOTS of it directly on the boot carpet - leaves no mark. But the smell persisted and I couldn't find where it was coming from.

Tried to buy some activated charcoal (couldn't wait for an online order to arrive) which was difficult but finally found some at an Aquatic Centre. Tried it overnight, but it didn't seem to do much (expensive too).

In desperation, went to Halfords and bought some Neutrodol which has done the trick after just a couple of days. Phewww!

Cut the fish's noses off, then they won't smell!!

Wet vacuum or steam cleaner like the kind you rent at groceries stores would likely help.

Could try leaving an open coffee can in the car for a couple weeks.
