Hi

There's been a couple of posts about superchargers and I have searched the forums but havent found a single post where a supercharger has fully broken, there might be some but what I searched for didnt turn any up, so I guess its not that rife given there must be a fair few owners with high mileage examples.

I am in the boat of having to get a high mileage version so Im wondering if the supercharger does brake has anyone here had it done and knows the costs?

Just been having a look around t'interweb  & came across this, some good info there..

Auto X Cooper MINI Cooper Supercharger Rebuild Service R53 M45 Eaton PTO Water Pump Super Charger (http://www.autoxcooper.com/mini_cooper_supercharger_rebuild_service.html)

If you have a look on the net for 'M45 Eaton Supercharger' I'm sure you'll come up with a lot more info on rebuilds etc.

Maybe even check the MX5 forums out, they use the same 'charger as us (M45 Eaton) when they do their blower conversions.

I've heard that they go for around £300-ish on ebay,

When I was sourcing a very similar Eaton Supercharger unit for a Mercedes C-Class last year, they were about £300 for good used, approx £1000 brand new from Mercedes Parts Dept., and reconditioned were somewhere inbetween on cost but quite hard to find in UK.

I'm going to keep my cooper I think now and get a cooper s as my next car hopefully, whenever that will be. But at least I know its not a major issue with the supercharger.

Sooner rather than later, probably... it's a slippery slope. ;)

I am very much in the same boat as you. I've had my 05 plate Cooper for around 3 months now I think and I'm already pricing up the S

The scary thing is, I paid 6 for my Cooper with 45,000 miles on the clock. A quick browse of Auto Trader shows me plenty of 04/05 R53's with anywhere from 50/70,000 on the clock (not that big a difference to my cooper on the grand scheme of things I don't think?) for anywhere from £5-6,000.

Like I said, I haven't had my Cooper for long and I'm absolutly in love with it but the thought of an S is already very, very tempting. Add to that the fact i'd be wanting to put around 1500-1800's worth of modding into my Cooper and upgrading to the S so early on (no need to buy a body kit, alloys etc) is almost looking a sensible option.
