: Manufacturing a custom air filter?

Hey buds. Looking to save a little money on upgrades for my 2002 MCS.

I'm no cheapskate, but $329 for a K&N filter? That's a robbery. The filter is literally no more than a couple feet of piping and a K&N filter slapped on the end. I am questioning how difficult it would be to simply manufacture my own filter just like this.

I have access to an industrial pipe bender, as well as tons of different clamps and different types and diameters of tube/pipe. Does anybody feel this would be a venture worth my time? Or should I go and sacrifice 300 smackers just to see a marginal performance increase?

FYI, I already do have a Mini Madness air filter installed, but I would like something even less restrictive. Any help or other ideas here (perhaps even better air filters) would be much appreciated.

Switching intakes is not going to buy you much if anything ;)
