I have a 2003 Cooper S JCW, I am changing the oil and I found this in the oil filter mount. I am not sure where it goes, I see two possible locations, is it 1 or 2, it is hard to tell from the picture but 2 has a spring in it, I have tried to put in to hole 1 but it won't stay, is there more to this part then I have, what is it called?

Once they come out, they usually can't be put back and be expected to stay there.
You might need to replace the filter housing (at about $260).
